Today at European Defence Agency I had a Präsentation about "End-to-End Communication Solutions for critical and defense capabilities" at the "Space for Defence Industry Workshop". I showed how the individual Domains can be integrated by satellite communication solutions. I present our view on relevant mission szenarios and how the individual technologies can enable defence and security capabilities. In this context Lasercom can make System resilient and robust as a redundancy to RF connections. Adopting the software-defined-defence paradigm with the Intention to connecting the diffrent assets, multi-domain-operations can be enable through lasercom and last-mile-connections through smart antennas with intelligent beamforming in agile networks with routig and switching solutions. Also I commited myself for commercial friedly IPR and procurement rules to stimulate the technology development and competetivness of the defence and space Industry. Also there should be a dialogue for standards with the industry and programms to adress applications and validation of technologies. #TeamTesat #EDA #Space #Innovation

Both government and commercial organizations are planning to launch not hundreds, but thousands of satellites in the coming years. Our Comtech Team recently worked with Aalyria to demonstrate new satellite communications (SATCOM) technologies that will help the Department of Defense (DoD) realize its vision for Hybrid Space Architectures and Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control networks. During the demonstration, Comtech partnered with Aalyria to orchestrate and operate a multi-vendor, multi-operator, multi-orbit SATCOM across multiple secure DoD and commercial provider locations. The demonstration involved building a software-defined mesh network incorporating more than 630 satellites from three commercial satellite operators, with fixed and mobile ground-based terminals spread between four partner testbed sites across two continents. This event highlighted the ability to reallocate network resources in response to the unexpected loss of a satellite, jamming, fiber outages. It also made changes for end-to-end data rate, latency, and priority requirements. The software also demonstrated the ability to task first-party network elements while orchestrating network switching and roaming across third party satellite services as a single software-defined network. Importantly, this technology contributes to two vital military concepts — Hybrid Space Architecture (HSA) and Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2). It’s great to see Clare Hopper and her team at CSCO continuing to find innovative ways to secure multi-band / multi-orbit / multi-network SATCOM capabiliites for America’s warfighters. Path diversity is critical to C2 resilience, day-to-day, but especially in a CDO environment. This drives many practical questions, not the least of which is, “With how many bespoke, vendor-specific terminals do we expect an organization to deploy?” And how do we flow information across commercial and DoD networks? And, most importantly, how do we make that seamless and transparent to the warfighter? These aren’t new questions, and securing access to new and emerging capabilities is part of the larger solution, but let’s not forget the criticality of terminals, ground segment, ground networks (including cross-links), and a robust strategy (and USG management of the same) to marry them all together. In the near term, the study suggests prioritizing coverage in the #IndoPacific as quickly as possible. #Constellations in #MEO might be better suited to cover these mid-latitude regions, while #satellites situated in #LEO would offer persistent coverage of higher latitudes and the polar region, according to the report. An #airborne underlay of #sensors could also provide immediate coverage to the Indo-Pacific, it notes. “For nearer-term coverage, especially for the lower latitudes relevant to the Indo-Pacific and other theaters, policymakers should be attentive to the pacing of sensor fielding, not only the final product—graceful deployment as well as graceful degradation,” the report says. Telesat Government Solutions awarded DARPA Space-BACN Phase 2 contract Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Telesat Government Solution announced that it was awarded the Phase 2 contract of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Space-Based Adaptive Communications Node (Space-BACN) program. The goal of Space-BACN is to create a reconfigurable, multi-protocol intersatellite optical communications terminal that is low in size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C), easy to integrate, and able to connect heterogeneous constellations that operate on different optical intersatellite link (OISL) specifications that otherwise would not be able to communicate.
