It isn't the first time but definitely a rare sight to watch competing brands, step up for a common cause. In what might be the hottest beverage *launch* of 2024, Andrew Huberman partnered with Mateina - a fast growing Yerba Mate brand - to launch in the US. I got to chat with Founder Nicolas Beaupré on DTC Pod — where we broke down how he built the brand over the past 5+ years. These are 4 ways that the brand grew organically and is now positioned for major scale on the back of their new strategic partnership 👇 1. Product Form Factor Mateina focused on loose leaf form at first to cater to purists, before scaling to ready-to-drink options which were preferable for retail. 2. Gatorade, for one, will run its new Gatorade Water spots, reflecting a broader trend in #beverages. “Beverage brands have begun to flex their muscle by entering new adjacent categories,” says Jim Watson, senior beverage analyst at Rabobank. “We have seen a big surge in innovation from Gatorade over the last several years including Gatorade Fit, Zero and now Water as well as powders and tablets.” Gatorade, widely used by athletes at all levels for its jolt of electrolytes, will run its “Always in Motion” commercials as 64 college #basketball teams compete to reach the #FinalFour in Phoenix. Some much need positive news for the global beer 🍺 👍 industry....Global brewers are set to sell more beer this year after several quarters of declines, helped by factors from sports and slower inflation to weather patterns and a fading boycott of Bud Light in the USA. Heineken the world's No. 2 brewer, already reported its first quarterly volume growth in over a year in the three months to end-March. Rival Carlsberg, also reported higher volumes after several quarters of decline. Anheuser-Busch InBev, meanwhile, reported a smaller-than-expected drop in volumes on Wednesday. Its sales have been hit hard by a boycott of key U.S. brand Bud Light, but the impact is now set to ease over a year after it started. Summer events, including the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2024 European Championship football tournament, alongside potentially less of the extreme weather (lots of rain🌂⛈️) that dented sales last year, these events should support volumes even in mature beer regions like western Europe.
