It's surprising and concerning that only 13% of employees in Europe feel engaged at work, which is way below the global average. This shows how crucial it is for leaders to focus on boosting employee engagement to improve company culture and overall performance. Engaged employees bring energy, creativity, and positivity, which can transform a workplace. By prioritizing employee wellbeing, companies can reduce stress and help their teams feel more connected and motivated. Let’s use this as a reminder to build more engaging and supportive workplaces.

What is going on in Europe? Are you all okay? Some interesting, but not really that surprising stats from this Gallup report. There are many stats in this report that are just sad - I don't know how else to put it. It is just sad that as organizations we are just getting talent and engagement all wrong. We need the right organizational systems and processes that are effective, and leadership who understands the impact of this disaster on the business $$. "Gallup estimates that low employee engagement costs the global economy US$8.9 trillion, or 9% of global GDP" Start with >>> investing in your managers and rising managers - equip them with skills and resources need to be at their top game and that includes creating systems that work for them, not against them. Start there. They have the biggest impact on your teams across board. In 2023, Europe faced a challenge with only 13% of its employees being actively engaged at work, which is significantly lower than the global average of 23%. This finding highlights the importance of creating a workplace environment that fosters commitment, motivation, and well-being. Here are some key insights from Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace Report 2023: 1. Global Engagement Trends: Globally, 23% of employees are actively engaged in their work, marking a record high. However, there’s still room for improvement, as a majority (59%) are merely going through the motions or “quiet quitting” by doing the bare minimum. Other research suggests a more optimistic view, with Kincentric reporting that 67% of employees are engaged worldwide. 2. US Engagement Levels: In the United States, employee engagement dropped to 31% in 2023, continuing a downward trend. Factors contributing to this decline include limited opportunities for development, unclear expectations, and employees not feeling valued at work. 3. South Asia Leads the Way: Surprisingly, South Asia boasts the highest engagement levels, with 33% of employees actively engaged. This region demonstrates the power of creating an environment where employees thrive and contribute to organizational success. How can leaders enhance workplace engagement??? i. Clear Expectations: Providing clarity about roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations helps employees feel more engaged. ii. Gallup has been reporting this shockingly low figure for years. Everyone who works in a company, has a management or leadership position or advises in companies experiences this on a daily basis. Thank you for that, but we no longer need it. Nor do we need to ask why this is the case. We also don't need attempts to answer why it has to be this way. The declining engagement also indicates that the methods used so far for improvement are not having the required effect. The methods lack operationalization with DMM. Decision-Making Management (DMM) ensures that everyone has their say in just a few seconds and everyone can immediately see what everyone meant. With this approach, a jointly supported decision can be reached and 100% participation and engagement is achieved. More importantly, all people part of a jointly supported decision, the superior form of decision. Experts can also see why engagement was previously so low and who benefits from the 13% engagement. For all those who want to give people a chance to do well, DMM is a good idea. DMM empowers people and should be introduced into organizations and integrated into all methods of any project, agile, traditional or any other approach. There is nothing good unless people do it.
