Happy to share the publication of my new research paper "An architectural insight into the role of personalisation of homes and its effects on residents’ psychological well-being" in #Archnet-IJAR: International Journal of Architectural Research. The research introduces the concept of 'Transformability' which highlights the significane of personalisation of space in eleviating user's psychological well-being. Dr. Shermeen Yousif ‘17, assistant professor at Florida Atlantic University and Texas A&M Department of Architecture Ph.D. graduate, recently received the Citation Award for Theoretical & Research, Professional from the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects. Working alongside professor John Sandell from Florida Atlantic University, their research titled “Airflow Simulation for Informing Environmental Design: Apartment Housing in Tropical Climates” explores the requirements for comfortable living in buildings in tropical climates, and examines cross-ventilation with the goal of optimizing airflow inside buildings to increase comfort. The research involves the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics for airflow analysis, allowing for a shift in the design process to achieve higher building efficiency early on. #architecture #environmentaldesign

Reviewing is crucial for personal and professional growth, a core practice deeply engrained in all aspects at MB. Analyzing experiences—be it work projects, academics, or personal interactions—provides invaluable insights. Examining successes and identifying areas for improvement deepens our grasp of strengths and weaknesses. Self-reflection creates informed decision-making and problem-solving, enhancing subsequent endeavors. When we engage in dialogues with peers and mentors, we are able to integrate diverse viewpoints and collective experiences, to act as a catalyst for gaining insights that may elude our individual perception and judgement. Learning from reviewing changes experience into wisdom. It's this ongoing process that empowers adaptation, growth, and the continual enhancement of capabilities. Whether in academia, professional pursuits, or personal development, integrating thoughtful reviewing becomes as a pivotal driver of success and perpetual self-improvement.

Rethinking architecture profession is central to tackle issues of equity, climate, and labor in the built enviroment. In this past Fall 2023 semester I have organized a symposium at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation where participants discussed and explored ideas and alternative practice modes.
