I am beyond excited; I am elated and full of gratitude for all the incredible connections that we made at the International Mass Timber Conference in Portland last week. #IMTC If you attended and we didn't connect, feel free to reach out. I'd love to hear your biggest takeaways and share mine. Here are a couple of my takeaways: ✅ Mass Timber has the capability and capacity to have a hugely positive impact on the housing shortage in North America and there are already a number of companies who are dedicating a significant amount of resources to this crisis. ✅It's incredible to see all of the manufacturers, equipment suppliers and installers collaborating with one another. This industry in particular has taken advantage of more opportunities to collaborate than any other industry I have recruited in. The idea of "all winning together" is alive and well. ✅Many companies are recruiting for key roles to help support the sectors growth. This is exciting on a number of levels: 1) It provides innovative job opportunities for people coming from a variety of backgrounds. 2) It signals that there is a demand for innovation in the construction sector which is great for jobs and the environment. #EngineeringJobs #MassTimberJob #SalesJobs #CareerDevelopment #BuildACareerInMassTimber

This Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) Funding will be utilized to develop the new 446-acre Westgate Supersite and aim to attract large #manufacturing companies looking to #expand or #relocate to Alabama. The city of Dothan and Houston County Commission are also contributing $3 million for the Denton Road portion of the project. The site will be serviced by Dothan Utilities, Alabama Power Company, Southeast Alabama Gas, and CSX Railroad. Availability in small bay industrial in the Seattle area remains remarkably tight, especially in close-in areas and near the Port of Tacoma. The Port of Tacoma — and adjacent cities such as Auburn and Puyallup — have availability rates of 3% or lower for properties in this size range. With a dearth of new, small bay construction projects, the segment should continue outperforming the overall Seattle industrial market. CoStar’s current forecast for properties in this size range shows vacancy rates staying at or below 5% for the foreseeable future, with the space available for would-be tenants remaining close to historically low levels. A rising tide lifts all boats. Driving around Houston and Dallas, it doesn't take long to see that the investment in roads is driving opportunity and priming the local economies for more growth. It's a simple message but one that we seem to miss often (in states other than TX, CA, OH, IL, and MI) - capital investment is how you grow over time. As I was driving along the industrial sectors of Houston yesterday, I did a back of the envelope calculation that I must have passed businesses that support 8,000 forklifts, maintain 20,000 bay doors, and maintain hundred of acres of roofing. Forget the core business being conducted in the spaces that I passed, the secondary and tertiary impacts of growth and need are staggering. Think of the supports that need to support the core functions of those operations. Growth begets growth - it's compounding but for opportunity. I am leaving later to go back to my more constrained PNW economic vision but appreciate more that old adage - the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the 2nd best time is today. I believe we need to plant more. #strategicplanning #economicdevelopment #opportunity
