What are my top three questions to every job seeker and why? Whether you are transitioning from the military, leaving professional sports or graduating from an education program, the location you pick for your home is one of the most important decisions in career success. You must leverage the geographical advance in career choices to match your locations. As we job seekers explore different industries and professions, its essential to consider how the location of the connecting industry aligns with your skills and aspirations. If you know me, you might have heard my tugboat analogy. I want to take it a bit further with this map from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics around the Marine Engineering Industry. While Kansas’s Manhattan might not be the mecca of jobs, you see that Texas and Florida could be. The coastal communities are hubs of innovation and activity in these industries. As you consider your career paths, understand that some skills are applicable across many industries. Consider the additional industry specific knowledge that you would need to attain to be successful in that field. Is it of interest to you? Are you going to want to dive into it full force? All of these things could be considered when job seeking. A brilliant few days in #monaco working with #management and #brokerage clients, while developing new relationships with strong independent businesses in the sector. Thanks to everyone for the hospitality and making us feel so welcome! . I've come back with some #exclusive opportunities, some further retained work and the framework of an official recruitment partnership with a leading #management company - more details to follow on all of the above. The evenings were spent #networking with #candidates and it was great fun finally meeting the people behind the #linkedin profiles! Conversation ranged from the Euros, the difficulties of living in the countryside, Scandinavia's stray dog policy, the Tour and occasionally some #yachting! It's clear that there are many talented, hardworking individuals in the #shoreside of the industry, and we need to recognise them, nurture them and support them. #KYC #AML and the #graylist were all common topics and obvious concerns for clients and candidates alike, and I'm hearing that internal processes to support client facing staff aren't what they should be in some cases. As none of this is going away in the foreseeable, perhaps we need to review how we handle these requirements. . It might be helpful for companies to review their job posting processes to ensure they are clear and transparent about location requirements.

Security Career Security has been my career for a quarter of a century now. Last night I was in the Bryn Teg Holiday Home Park Restaurant; as I am on most nights, to make sure everything runs smoothly. Each night I speak to a lot of people from Owners to Guests staying in the Luxury Lodges. The idea being familiarity and friendship creates a less volatile environment. Last night during a conversation with a gentleman and his family, his wife asked me what I had done previously in Security. For a moment I was thrown. How do you sum up effectively what you have achieved over 25 years in a short sentence? It’s a brief, polite conversation in a crowded restaurant so very briefly I struggled to paint a complicated picture. That incident has led to a desire to mention a collective that sums up my career in this post. I decided to start with what I consider the most important; For me personally the time I spent abroad from the UK as an Armed Security Operative is top of the heap. This included Diplomatic and Celebrity Escorts and Close Protection. The years I spent in the UK as Mobile Rapid Response and High Speed Pursuit are very close to my heart as they were my introduction to Security. My time spent on Surveillance and Maritime Security were great experience. Working alongside Special Branch, Immigration and Customs at Border Force. Providing Security for Major Motion Picture production on location and for Live Concerts like Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Noel Gallagher were extremely enjoyable. Along with Security at the Welsh Conservatives Conference and the Welsh Open Snooker. I also provided Security at a restricted access government Covid site back in that strange era. So you see what I mean. I wanted to sum all that up in one sentence - I failed. Should that lovely family be scrolling through LinkedIn and come across this post; That’s what I wanted to say in answer to your question. To everyone else; ‘You are only limited by the cage you build around yourself. We are, after all, our own worst enemy.
