🚨Auba Alert: The Port of Baltimore could receive ~1,700 TEUs a day by the end of march (two months after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse). Here’s why ⬇️ The US Army Corps of Engineers just announced a plan to remove the MV Dali—the container ship that crashed against the Francis Scott Key Bridge. This is the most ambitious plan to restore the Port of Baltimore to its past prominence. If successful, the Army Corps of Engineers could open a safe passage in the port that allows trade up to 75% of port capacity. That would equal, roughly speaking, 621,500 TEUs a year. That is, if the Army Corps of Engineers can open a temporary canal, Baltimore could see as many as 1,700 TEUs a day. Currently, there are four entry points available to the port, but only two have the capacity for major container ships to cross to the Port of Baltimore. As an Officer who has commanded multiple Signal Companies, I couldn't agree more with this article. The Army's current process for property and accountability is in dire need of an overhaul. Countless man hours are wasted in monthly inspections, and the equipment turn-in process is confusing and opaque. Command post survivability and flexibility is key in today's operating environment. Similiar to what 2nd Infantry Division - Korea is doing with its Command Post Integrated Infrastructure (CPI2) units, the 4th Infantry Division will conduct a series of command post exercises (CPX) this year to improve its on-the-move command and control for future combat scenarios. This Spring, the US Army Corps of Engineers published a memo formally recognizing the value of nature-based solutions (NBS), directing its staff to attempt to quantify project impacts on ecosystem goods and services, integrating NBS where feasible. This includes planning stages, which must include a NBS amongst the alternatives under consideration. The U.S. Army plans to complete its multidomain task force structure by fiscal 2028, according to an internal service document obtained by Defense News. While marked “predecisional,” which means decisions and plans described may change, the document lays out the service’s recent Total Army Analysis and its proposed force structure plans across the board. The service’s first MDTF was experimental, but since then the Army has operationalized its first MDTF unit and will ultimately build four more. The Army established that initial one at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state around 2018. U.S. Indo-Pacific Command theater exercises with MDTF participation helped inform the Army’s Multi-Domain Operations warfighting concept, which has now evolved into doctrine. The Army then established another MDTF in Europe in 2021, and another in Hawaii in 2022. The units are designed to operate across all domains — land, air, sea, space and cyberspace — and are equipped with the Army’s growing capabilities, including long-range precision fires. According to the Army’s document, the service will consolidate Mid-Range Capability and Long-Range Hypersonic batteries under a Long-Range Fires Battalion (LRFB) headquarters and complete programming of the remaining Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) battalions over the next five years. The Army also plans to convert all brigade support companies to battalion design and complete stationing decisions for all MDTF formations in that same timeframe. Army should permanently station armor brigade in Poland. My question...is that sufficient? Fully aware of the geopolitical situation across eastern Europe and the threat...what would be the ideal task organization under V Corps (FWD)? My initial reaction...permanently station a heavy division, 4 brigades with full slice of support (aviation, artillery, all the logistics, etc) and ensure the supply lines are clear and fully operational. The article touches on the entire unit rotational concept and it is clear that from a personnel standpoint, service members and their families are over it. It is having a negative impact...and what is the endstate?
