To claim protection from skin cancer and early skin aging, products labeled as sunscreen in the United States are required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be broad spectrum and have an SPF of at least 15 When selecting a sunscreen, make sure the label says: Broad spectrum: The words "broad spectrum” means that the sunscreen can protect your skin from both types of harmful UV rays — the UVA rays and the UVB rays. SPF 30 or higher: The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you select a sunscreen with an SPF rating of 30 or higher. - look for the words "water resistant.” This tells you that the sunscreen will stay on wet or sweaty skin for a while before you need to reapply. Water resistance lasts either 40 or 80 minutes. Not all sunscreens offer water resistance. If you feel you have developed sun-damaged skin, a dermatologist can examine your skin and make recommendations for you. May 27th is National Sunscreen Day. 😎 Nothing is more damaging to the skin than the sun's ultraviolet rays. And nothing defends the skin more effectively from those rays than sunscreen. Exposure to the sun can damage the skin, worsen signs of ageing, and even cause cancer. Sunscreen forms a protective barrier that can help keep your skin looking younger and prevent cancer. In choosing the right sunscreen, look first for the sun protection factor (SPF) rating. A measure of the amount of ultraviolet B radiation (UVB) protection, SPF numbers span from 2 to 50, with 50 offering the most protection. The second is the star rating: the more stars, the better the protection. While May 27th celebrates the importance of sunscreen, it pays to use it every day for the ultimate skin protection. To celebrate National Sunscreen Day, Waccamaw Dermatology Skin Institute is offering 15% off all sunscreen products. From SkinCeuticals' Daily Brightening UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 30 and Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 and the entire Sunforgettable cosmetics line from Colorscience to EltaMD's professional sunscreens and more, we're here to help make superior sun protection more affordable. Do an at-home skin check-up once a month https://lnkd.in/ddTrMmM5 #SkinCheck #SkinCare #SkinHealth #MonthlyCheck #SkinCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #CancerPrevention #StayHealthy #SelfCare #Dermatology #HealthTips #Wellness #SunSafety #ProtectYourSkin #HealthySkin #CheckYourSkin #SkinCareRoutine #HealthCheck #PreventiveCare #HealthyLiving #SkinProtection #MedicalAdvice #SkinHealthTips #SeeADermatologist #tiktok #tiktokskincare This is a pretty simple thing you can do that can help extend your life. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Luckily, it’s highly treatable if detected early. Do an at-home skin check-up once a month by checking your skin from hair to toes and front to back. Obviously I would recommend that you should also make sure to get a skin check up with a physician every six months. Some dermatologists see high-risk patients every month or so, but it really depends on your unique situation. A major advantage of checking your skin every month is you're going to notice any little thing and you're going to be able to see a change quicker. If you're seeing me every six months for a skin check up, but you're checking your skin every month, you're going to catch things sooner. What you're looking for is something that changes, whether it's the size, the color, any change at all. Anytime your skin doesn’t appear normal to you, or something has changed, you should see your Plastic surgeon or Dermatologist. Skin cancer is most often caused by the sun, and can appear anywhere. And I mean anywhere.
