Sixty years ago this year, the Job Corps came into being and with it the 24 Civilian Conservation Centers operated by the Forest Service. These centers have helped thousands of young men and women achieve their promise. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Job Corps, here’s the story of retired Idaho Court of Appeals Judge Sergio Gutierrez: https://lnkd.in/gN6jFZia When he was a young boy, Sergio Gutierrez promised his Abuelita that he would get his college degree. After a difficult childhood and adolescence, Gutierrez got the chance to turn his life around and make good on his promise when he discovered the Wolf Creek Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Oregon. Successfully completing the GED program at Wolf Creek CCC, he was then able to get his college degree and even his law degree, which then launched him on a legal career that would see him rise to one of Idaho’s highest courts. Judge Gutierrez’s success is just one of many fulfilled promises enabled by Job Corps, so happy 60th anniversary!

Meet the Termites: Queens, Soldiers, Workers, and Productive Termites! Hey everyone! Ever wondered who's who in the bustling world of termites? Let's take a peek into their fascinating society! Queens: Meet the matriarchs of the colony! These royal ladies are the egg-laying machines, responsible for perpetuating the termite kingdom. With a lifespan of decades, they ensure the colony's survival by producing thousands of eggs each day. Long live the queen! Soldiers: Donning their armored exoskeletons, soldiers are the defenders of the colony. Equipped with powerful jaws or chemical defenses, they protect against threats like ants and other invaders. Their sacrifice ensures the safety of their termite brethren! Workers: The unsung heroes of the colony, workers are the backbone of termite society. Tirelessly chewing through wood and cellulose, they build and maintain the nest, forage for food, and care for the young. They may be small, but their collective effort keeps the colony thriving! Productive Termites: Beyond the traditional roles, there's a myriad of termites contributing to the colony's success. From architects shaping intricate tunnels to farmers cultivating fungal gardens, these industrious minds drive innovation and adaptation. Together, they create a powerhouse of productivity! Termites may be small, but their teamwork and specialized roles make them a force to be reckoned with in the natural world! #innovpestmanagement #pestcontrol #cockroachcontrol

Radiating Hope: Juhi Consulting's Founder/Director Empowers End of Care Landscapes with Creativity and Transformation
🌿 Important Announcement Regarding Altona Memorial Park 🌿 Dear LinkedIn Community, I wanted to take a moment to address recent events concerning the theft of memorial plaques at Altona Memorial Park, managed by The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust. While we acknowledge the immediate concern surrounding these incidents, it's essential to recognise the broader implications at play. The removal of memorials from a cemetery or any landscape is a multifaceted issue with profound implications for our cultural, social, environmental, and political landscapes. From a human geography perspective, this removal touches upon various critical aspects: 🏛 Cultural Impact: Memorials serve as poignant symbols, reflecting the beliefs and values of those they commemorate. Their removal can disrupt the continuity of cultural narratives and historical significance. 🤝 Social Dynamics: Cemeteries are sacred spaces for communal remembrance and reflection. Alterations to the landscape can significantly impact social interactions and ignite tensions among diverse groups. 🌍 Environmental Concerns: It's important to consider the environmental footprint associated with memorial production, including resource extraction and the potential for habitat destruction, resource depletion and modern slavery. 💪 Power and Representation: Decisions surrounding memorialisation are inherently linked to power dynamics, often raising questions of equitable representation and social justice. As professionals, there's an opportunity for us to engage in deeper reflection and dialogue on these complex issues. Let's come together to explore themes of grief, loss, and memorialisation, while considering the diverse perspectives and stakeholders involved. Your understanding and support are deeply appreciated as we navigate these challenges together. #Memorialisation #CemeteryCulture #CulturalLandscape #SocialReflection #EnvironmentalAwareness #CommunityDialogue #GriefJourney #RememberingTogether #CemeteryManagement #HeritagePreservation Image Credit: Altona Park, The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust
