Radiation safety for healthcare professionals hasn’t always been a priority. In the past, shielding measures for technicians and other providers administering radiation was minimal, leading to potential frequent exposure and the resulting risks. Fortunately, these standards have changed — a rise in the use of radiation for treatments and scans has come a better understanding of the technology and the necessity of shielding to keep patients and providers alike safe. Radiation shielding — from protective gear to shielded doors and other building upgrades — allows the field of radiation oncology and beyond to grow and thrive while maintaining high standards of security and safety for all: #RadiationShielding #RadiationOncology #RadiationTherapy #CancerCare #Radiation

upBeat® Sparkles: Heart Fun Facts & Hidden Gems! 💖💎✨ === Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators (AICDs) === Did you know that the roots of AICDs trace back to groundbreaking research in the 18th century? 🕰️ In 1775, Peter Abildgaard conducted the first successful electrical defibrillation experiment on chickens. Fast forward to 1980, and Michel Mirowski's team at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore achieved a medical milestone by successfully treating their first human patient with an AICD, a device designed to abort ventricular fibrillation and save lives. 💪 The journey of AICDs is marked by key contributors, including Paul Zoll, whose pioneering work in 1956 saw the first successful external defibrillation in a human subject. Zoll's contributions laid crucial groundwork for the advancements in cardiac care, setting the stage for the development of AICDs in the following decades. 🌐⚡ From the early explorations by Zoll and others to the technological breakthroughs of the 1980s, the AICD's evolution reflects the relentless pursuit of innovation in cardiac care. Today, AICDs, with roots deep in history and propelled by visionary minds, continue to be a life-saving choice for patients with ventricular tachyarrhythmias. 🏥💙 ZOLL Medical Corporation Medtronic St. Jude Medical Abbott Boston Scientific #HeartHealth #MedicalInnovation #CardiacCare #HiddenGems #MonitraHealth #upBeat

Adjusting FiO2 in non-ventilated patients is an imperfect art and carries unpredictable results. An automated system that responds to SpO2 would likely work much better. In a recent article from the current edition of Critical Care & Resuscitation Journal, the evidence is made clear: more time spent in target range with an automated approach (P=0.01). Well worth a careful read! Critical Care and Resuscitation is the official journal of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. https://loom.ly/AAGIaXY
