URC Executive Vice President Carlos J. Cuellar, MD, MPH joined IBI CEO David M. Wall last week in Guatemala City’s Parque La Chacara to officially launch Somos Ciudad, a USAID-funded project focused on violence prevention in some of Guatemala’s most vulnerable communities. Specifically, Somos Cuidad will implement violence prevention programs, promote community engagement, and use innovative tools to improve public safety by working with governments, businesses, and civil society. URC today announced the acquisition of IBI, a leading provider of international development consulting services, expanding URC’s breadth of management and leadership development expertise supporting national and local governments, communities, and the private sector. IBI specializes in three practice areas: economic growth and governance; monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL); and stabilization and crisis response. Since 2021, the USAID Keneya Nieta Activity, implemented by URC, has been supporting the Government of Mali in strengthening the resilience of its community health system with a goal of reducing maternal, neonatal, and child mortality within communities. The Activity on Sept. 5 formally donated 200 ambulance tricycles to the same number of villages in the Mopti, Ségou, and Sikasso regions of Mali, marking a major step forward in strengthening the referral-evacuation system between villages and community health centers. More than 340,000 people will have much faster access to urgent care. “These motorcycle ambulances are not just a means of transportation – they are a real lifeline,” said Rachna Korhonen, U.S. Ambassador to Mali.
