We are delighted to relaunch our 'Mind Yourself' series in partnership with Agriland Media. The series aims to tackle some of the common orthopaedic and joint pain problems that farmers face due to the physically demanding nature of the job, where long hours and strenuous tasks can take their toll. Whether the issue is with a knee, a shoulder, or the lower back, the advice tends to be consistent. Ignoring an old injury or persistent pain can have serious repercussions. What may seem like a minor issue can develop into a chronic condition if left untreated. Proper diagnosis and rehabilitation are crucial to prevent further damage and ensure long-term health and a better quality of life on the farm. Special thanks to UPMC patient Denis, and his son Patrick, for their time and participation in our 'Mind Yourself' series Read more: www.upmc.ie/farmers

After 9 and a half months at Villa Beretta Rehabilitation Research Innovation Institute, Atalante has reached the milestone of the first million steps taken inside our gyms. Over this period, the exoskeleton has been used for 750 training sessions with more than 60 patients. But what is inside these first million steps? ✔ There are a million small pieces of space that have been painstakingly regained: moving forward, backward, sideways, without the patient leaning on any support. ✔ There are a million intentions: thoughts that, aided by the 12 motors of the Cobot, have resulted in motion in a person after a spinal cord injury, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. ✔ There are at least a billion neurons within the brain, spinal cord, and the sensory receptors inside the muscles, joints, and skin that have lit up at each of these steps, to decide each time the best way to activate themselves fully to relearn how to control the body. #NeuroRehabilitation #SpinalCordInjury #Stroke #TraumaticBrainInjury #RegainingMovement Wandercraft

Are you a clinician treating chronic pain? Are you overwhelmed by the complexity and the inconsistency of it all? Would you like to attend a course that specifically goes into depth about cases and explores diverse pain models? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you will greatly benefit from joining us for this 2-day course in Weesp, Netherlands (or attend via live-stream) in October 2024. Pain Geeks is hosting Tim Beames for his 2-day course called ‘The Pain Picture’. This workshop explores complex pain states by considering the dynamic interactions of brain, body, and world. We use complex and persistent pain states as a reference point to understand the experience and the perception of the person in pain. During the workshop participants will be introduced, through videos and case studies, to patient perspectives of living with pain and their personal pain journeys. There will be discussions and debates to allow a thorough reflection of the picture of pain, dissecting pain models and considering concepts such as vulnerability/susceptibility and tolerance/resilience and their relevance to the person in pain and their wellbeing. Participants will also design and develop appropriate treatment programs for complex pain states with an updated way of thinking about pain. 🎟️Tickets are on sale now! 🔗Link in bio for more info or go to https://lnkd.in/e_FgUpkN #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #fysiotherapie #fysiotherapeut #fysio #physio #chronischepijn #pijntherapie #biopsychosocialmodel #paintherapy #holistictreatment #chonicpain #persistentpain #painphysio #painphysiotherapy #amsterdam #therapy #timbeames

Vivistim in Action: This is what FDA-approved Vivistim Therapy looks like from the therapist's view and the stroke survivor's view. When the therapist pushes the button on the Vivistim Clicker, it signals the Vivistim Device, which is implanted in the patient during an outpatient procedure, to deliver vagus nerve stimulation at the exact time the stroke survivor performs a task-specific therapy exercise, like flipping cards. This Paired VNS Therapy helps chronic, ischemic stroke survivors regain 2-3x more hand and arm function than traditional stroke therapy alone. Have you ever been confronted with a patient suffering from neck-related arm pain and wondered what mechanism could explain this pain? If so, take a look at this article. By the way, I would like to thank you Renaud Hage and the entire team Frédéric Dierick, Antoine Fourré, PhD, Nathalie Roussel, Mark Jones for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to collaborate on this superb paper.

There was some discussion at the Neuromodulation panel and elsewhere that might lead listeners to think that spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is "off-label" or "not approved" in patients who have had a spinal cord injury. One person actually said that insurance and Medicare will not cover the cost of implantation. This is inaccurate and has not been my experience. I don't consider placement of SCS "off label". My patients meet the definition of CRPS type 2, and CRPS is an intended use population for SCS. The symptoms of CRPS include sensory loss, muscle strength loss, trophic changes in the skin, pain, spasms, and autonomic dysfunction (including inability to control blood pressure and bowel, bladder and/or sexual function) - all of which are very common in people with spinal cord injury. People with spinal cord injury were not specifically included in the FDA premarket approval (PMA) study of SCS but most meet the definition of the intended use population. This is similar to if a pedicle screw were cleared for use in spine fixation and then you used it in a patient who had an unstable spine fracture but planned to become or actually was pregnant. Pregnancy (or its intent) was an exclusion criteria for the PMA in which the pedicle screw was cleared, but the placement of a pedicle screw in a pregnant patient with a broken spine would not be off-label, it would be its intended use.
I'm delighted to be on a panel at today's Neuromodulation conference in Minneapolis. Check out this quick update on how some of my patients who were previously paraplegic or quadriplegic are doing. #unitetofightparalysis #spinalcordinjury #paraplegia #quadriplegia

**Title: Understanding Primary Ciliary Dyskinesis (PCD): A Simple Insight** Let's picture something for a moment - tiny, hair-like things wiggling, moving stuff forward, seen under a microscope. They're not ants or worms - they are cilia, little whiskers that line some of your body parts, like your nose, lungs, and ears. Now, imagine that they are not wiggling as much as they should be or maybe not at all. This is what happens to people with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD). Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) has an estimated incidence of 1/15,000-1/30,000 live births, but this is probably underestimation. Prevalence is difficult to determine. Overall, 57% were males and 48% had situs inversus. Median age at diagnosis was 5.3 yrs, lower in children with situs inversus (3.5 versus 5.8 yrs; p < 0.001) and in children treated in large centres (4.1 versus 4.8 yrs; p = 0.002). Keywords 1. Brain and Spinal Neurosurgeon, Back Pain NeuroHAB Rehabilitation Specialist, Olympic Weightlifting Coach, Functional Movement Clinician, CrossFit Athlete, Semifinalist (Masters) 2024 CrossFit Games
An absolute delight this morning to catch up with one of our very first 2015 NeuroHAB class attendees. Wendy reversed chronic back pain culminating in a symptomatic disc prolapse nearly ten years ago with Functional Movement Therapy and has been an unstoppable force since. NeuroHAB is the only program that defines proficient lumbo-pelvic biomechanics for activities of daily living and cures the disease of Movement Dysfunction which causes low back pain symptoms. Why is this important? Because the most significant factor that determines joint health is the way it moves. #paradigmshift #NeuroHAB #functionalmovementtrainingcentre #functionalmovementtherapy #curebackpain #movementtheory

Do You Have the Balls to Physically Rehabilitate Yourself?!? My name is Paul Ruth. I’m a holistic neuromuscular specialist who focuses on the treatment of TMJ (more commonly known as lockjaw) and headaches. My success rate in these two areas is over 98%. Meaning it’s very rare indeed that a patient comes to me for relief and doesn’t experience it. And not just for a couple of days or weeks or months. The change is lasting. I’m very proud of this statistic, and proud of the new online course I’m offering. I call it Da Balls. In this course, you’ll learn how to do the exact same work I do at Mojo Physio, my office in Scottsdale, Arizona. Step-by-step, I’ll teach you everything you need to know to alleviate all sorts of chronic pain from ailments like the ones I’ve described above, carpal tunnel syndrome, and a whole lot more. By the time I’m finished with you, you’ll understand how your joints are structured, why certain maladies pop up, and how to alleviate them … all on your own. Even better, you’ll understand the relationship your brain and neurological system have with pain. How pain is really the brain’s way of crying out for help, and how you can heed that cry to rid yourself of pain and various physical impediments. And again: this isn’t a temporary cure. The best part about what I teach you is that it lasts you the rest of your life. Plus, everything I teach you requires no drugs, no surgery, no injections. Nope. All it takes is a set of inexpensive therapy balls and the time it costs you to learn something new. If you’re interested in alleviating chronic pain for good, I hope you’ll come check out this course. #tmj #headache #migraine #phoenix #relief #tmjd #healer #arizona #allnatural
