Her co-workers were proceeding with basic life support with an automated external defibrillator. After the arrival of the emergency service, advanced life support proceeded and ventricular fibrillation was the first rhythm recorded. Return of spontaneous circulation was obtained after defibrillation shock (200 Joules). During transport to the hospital, the patient had another cardiac arrest. Cardiology conference in Acapulco I recently participated in the bi-annual conference of cardiology in Acapulco, Mexico as an invited speaker. The conference was organised by the Mexican Society of Cardiology (Sociedad Mexicana de Cardiologia), and delayed for 6 months due to the tropical storm Otis in October 2023, which caused severe damage to Acapulco. I had two talks at the conference. The first talk was about the Heart Runner project in Denmark (https://lnkd.in/dYMr7NYh) supported by Trygfonden. Head of research of the Heart Runner Project, Professor Fredrik Folke from Emergency Medical Services, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital had kindly allowed me to present background information and a few results from the project. In short, results from the project show that by downloading an app, and signing up as a Heart Runner (currently 160 000 in Denmark), doing PCR in an out-of-hospital setting before the ambulance arrives, significantly improves survival rate of individuals who had sudden cardiac arrest. Mexico - and especially Mexico City with its 22 000 000 citizens and serious traffic problems - could potentially benefit from implementing a similar system. This is now being considered among Mexican cardiologists. The other talk was about my research in indigenous populations (Mexican Rarámuri/Tarahumara and East African Maasai) and how cardiorespiratory fitness and physical activity/exercise was associated with cardiometabolic fitness, i.e. health. In brief, moderate fitness and high physical activity at low to moderate intensity was associated with high cardiometabolic fitness. #Mexico #Cardiology #HeartRunner #IndigenousPeople #Fitness

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) recently released a new clinical guideline for managing individuals diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Fellow CCF collaborators, Drs. Carolyn Ho, Seema Mital , Sharlene Day and Jeffrey Kim are among the authors. The updated recommendations for adult and pediatric patients are based on recent evidence about HCM treatment, including new pharmacologic management, recreational and competitive sports participation, and sudden cardiac death risk stratification, especially in pediatric patients.
