Surgical oncology is a medical specialty that uses surgery to treat cancer. Surgical oncologists, or surgeons who specialize in cancer surgery, perform a variety of operations to remove tumors, diagnose cancer, and determine if it has spread. The latest study from our group integrates Imaging and Clinical Data using a Multimodal Machine Learning Model. This time, the question under investigation is the prediction of Anastomotic Leakage after Esophageal Cancer Surgery. Take-home messages: Logistic regression demonstrated that CT-based aortic calcification score, a CRP at postoperative day 2 (CRPd2) > 211 mg/L (P < 0.001) and at postoperative day 3 (CRPd3) > 222 mg/L (P < 0.001), as well as ASA score (P = 0.003), were significant predictors of postoperative AL. An XGBoost model was constructed using the parameters found significant in logistic regression. For the prediction of AL, the model achieved an AUC of 79.2% (95% CI 69%–89.4%) with a specificity of 77.46%, a sensitivity of 65.22%, a PPV of 48.39%, an NPV of 87.3% and F1-score of 56%, Figure 4a. SHAP analysis showed that the aortic calcification score had the highest contribution to the model output, with a low aortic score predicting negative and a high aortic score predicting positive AL. I’m thrilled to announce the publication of one of our latest research articles, “Imaging the post-treatment pelvis with gynecologic cancers,” in Abdominal Radiology! 📝 Gynecological malignancies, including ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancers, have a profound global impact. In this study, we explore the intricate landscape of post-treatment imaging for women with gynecologic malignancies, shedding light on the diagnostic challenges and strategies for optimal patient care. Our findings underscore the critical role of diagnostic imaging modalities, particularly Computerized Tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in evaluating post-treatment complications. Indocyanine Green (ICG) in Robotic Gastrectomy: A Retrospective Review of Lymphadenectomy Outcomes for Gastric Cancer Radical gastrectomy is essential for gastric cancer treatment. While guidelines advise dissecting at least 16 lymph nodes, some research suggests over 30 nodes might be beneficial. This study assessed ICG-guided robotic gastrectomy's effectiveness in thorough lymph node dissection. We analyzed data from 393 stage II or III gastric cancer patients treated at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital from 2016-2022. Patients were categorized into conventional laparoscopy (G1, n = 288), ICG-guided laparoscopy (G2, n = 61), and ICG-guided robotic surgery (G3, n = 44). Among 391 patients, 308 (78.4%) achieved proper lymphadenectomy. The ICG-robotic group (G3) showed the highest success rate at 90.9%. ICG-guided robotic surgery was a significant predictor for achieving proper lymphadenectomy, with an odds ratio of 3.151. CytoVeris presents its innovative AI-driven and label-free imaging technology for enhancing Bladder cancer surgery.   This week at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) in Washington DC, CytoVeris had the opportunity to present its research on the utilization of its AI-powered multispectral autofluorescence imaging platform, AURORA, in bladder cancer surgery. This study was focused on the accurate and real-time identification of detrusor muscle in freshly excised specimens, which has the potential to greatly enhance the quality of transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) procedures. Our poster gained significant attention at the conference, thanks to its label-free approach and incredibly promising findings. Proud of our students - Thirrisha, Louis and Sarah - for working closely with the EMPD team at National Cancer Centre Singapore and publishing in Annals of Surgery Open! This systematic review and meta-analysis is (to our knowledge) the first attempt at collating available evidence on mapping biopsies in the surgical management of primary EMPD. We found that mapping biopsies were able to improve EMPD surgical excision outcomes, however, given the rarity of the disease and heterogeneity of mapping biopsy procedures, further confirmation with RCTs or a larger patient pool is necessary. https://lnkd.in/gqydbTci
