Consume products which are produced organically, use of herbicides, biofertilizers, ensures soil health is maintained. Processed food isn't necessarily unhealthy. Check labels on food carefully avoid foods with high salt, sugar & oil content. Reduce food wastage, use your own coffee mugs in office instead of disposables, carry your lunch instead of grabbing a sandwich wrapped in a plastic. The Avocado toast you are enjoying or the lamb steak or cherry tomato & cheese salad you are enjoying comes with a heavy price, look for food within 100kms & surely there are recipes & vegetables which will entice you. Moving away from animal proteins could greatly benefit our food system, helping create a climate-friendly model for the future. However, without integrating circularity, the effectiveness of this strategy could lag. Transitioning from animal protein to alternative proteins (meaning everything from Impossible Burgers to legumes) is an excellent start, but totally abandoning animal protein may not be the best choice. Our protein economy isn't ready to provide enough alternative protein sources to meet global nutrition requirements. This means our protein-free journey is going to be much more of a long-term phase out, phase in scenario. Circularity can help during this stage. Food systems that incorporate circularity reduce as much waste as possible and prioritize efficiency. Circularity cuts down land use and the need for long-haul transportation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As we make our protein transition, circularity can ensure that we are maximizing the sustainability of our animal protein system as we continue to use it- less and less.
