Healing organs and saving lives with EVLP. In highly-specialized operating rooms at UHN’s Toronto General Hospital, Manyin Chen and Hongchao Shan, organ perfusion specialists, are making transplantation more successful using UHN’s homegrown technology known as the Toronto Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) System. It may look like science fiction, but EVLP has been helping TeamUHN increase the number of transplants since 2008. As organ perfusion specialists, Manyin and Hongchao use EVLP to do the delicate work of keeping lungs “alive” and stable outside of a body before transplantation. The surgical team assesses and treats the lungs to ensure they are functioning well and are ready for transplant. Infections that would otherwise make lungs unusable can be treated, meaning surgeons can perform more transplants and save more lives. With EVLP, UHN’s Ajmera Transplant Centre performs more lung transplants than anywhere in the world. No one ever changed the world on their own but when the bright minds at UHN are UHNITED with donors we can redefine the world of healthcare together. Watch below to see what's possible when donor support leads to groundbreaking technology. University Health Network Ajmera Transplant Centre UHN #LungTransplant #Transplant #UHNITED

We are excited to present SATA's innovative multicenter database initiative focused on enhancing the quality of liver transplant anesthesia. Our aim is to assist transplant centers in developing individualized databases to gain insights into their specific practice trends. Furthermore, we aspire to facilitate collaborative research endeavors utilizing prospectively collected data across multiple centers. Drawing inspiration from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Transplant, which focuses on surgical data and outcomes in liver and kidney transplants, our team has engaged with key members to gather valuable insights. Currently, three ongoing projects on AKI, Early Extubation, and Normothermic Perfusion Pumps have stemmed from this database. #LiverTransplant #QualityImprovement

🔍 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗧𝗨𝗠𝗧 𝘃𝘀. 𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗣🔍 In the realm of prostate treatments, understanding postoperative complications is crucial for both practitioners and patients. A world-renowned high-quality scientific meta-analysis by the Swedish SBU in 2011 shed light on this, comparing traditional TURP with TUMT methods, including the innovative CoreTherm® (PLFT®). The analysis highlighted that the retreatment rate was the only parameter where TUMT lagged behind TURP. However, the introduction of the Schelin Catheter® in 2004 marked a turning point. By utilizing intraprostatic injections of local anesthesia plus adrenaline prior to CoreTherm® treatments, we've significantly reduced complications compared to previous findings. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀: - Primary responder rate improved to over 90% - Retreatment rate within 36 months has almost vanished This evolution from an in-hospital operation to an outpatient Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatment (MIST) not only reduces adverse events but also cuts healthcare resources and costs in half. It’s a leap towards making treatments more accessible, less expensive, and with fewer complications. 🦅 Exciting News! 🦅 We're thrilled to introduce the newly MDR approved, and CE marked Swedish "Eagle" system, a further development in this innovative journey. Stay connected to learn more about how the "Eagle" system is setting new standards in prostate treatment efficiency and safety. 🔗 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?
