UPMC Hires McKinsey to Address Basic Health System Operations. Is this a Very Expensive Admission of a Lack of Confidence in the Organization's Leadership/Infrastructure or a Step Towards Innovation? Whatever one's opinion about UPMC, this is a wakeup call for health systems to redouble their focus on basic operations and physician/workforce relationships. It also raises questions about the benefits of being a payer. https://lnkd.in/gWJrbQG9 So it goes n8 #healthsystems #hospitals #physicians

The Ontario Health West (OH West) Central Intake Project aims to provide equity for CT and MRI accessibility across the OH West region. The project is a significant investment for the healthcare system and is expected to enhance patient access to CT/MRI services, simplify the process for routine booking, optimize system capacity and enable future modernizations and innovative changes. Throughout the month of March, SBGHC participated within a key role of the Proof-of-Concept team, which was designed to test patients’ willingness to travel further distances for shorter wait times for medical imaging. Partnering sites that took part in the proof of concept included: London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare London, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and South Bruce Grey Health Centre. At SBGHC, we know that rural health care is unique, and by taking on a lead role in the Proof-of-Concept project we are working to collaborate with OH West and larger urban centers in a mutually beneficial way, for all patients, to access MRI and CT services. #WeAreSBGHC #Community #AccessToCare #centralintake #OntarioHealthWest #MedicalImaging #DiagnosticImaging #Partners #UsingResourcesWisely #HealthyCommunities #PatientsAsPartners

Let’s celebrate this moment! This alliance could be one of the most important turning points in American culture shift to one of healing health environments vs one that is all too often marked with self destructive environments. A spark we desperately need. A united front against the momentum of average corporate food & “comfort” (eg “no need for a sidewalk or safe bike lane, we’ve got a moving sidewalk and car to take you the few feet away so your feet can go away - don’t need ‘em!”), which conveniently serves corporate pharma. Though now corporate pharma has gone “rogue” with next gen GLP-1 drugs to which I’m sure corporate food execs are saying an equivalent of “et tu Brute?!” - ie finding a way to sell “solutions” to us that are more parasitic to a root cause than addresssing it: our CRRAHP (calorie rich, refined and highly processed) food & beverage saturated environments. Btw, if you know me and The Flex5 Lifestyle, I’m not an “absolute zero tolerance to CRRAHP” food dude. I’m a realist - after all my health and wellbeing company is “Reality Meets Science®” for a reason (zero tolerance is a bridge too far for most of the people open to hearing about Health Longevity & Lifestyle Medicine). But we’re drowning in CRRAHP foods to a destructive fault rather than having it - like Blue Zones do - in very low doses as a “small amount of spice of life”. My trip to Sardinia for Visionalist Entertainment Productions’ PBS documentary “The Embrace of Aging” (where I met my now good friend and Blue Zones founder, Dan Buettner) was marked with an unforgettable food environment moment - see 45 seconds into this video for 15 second clip and post your thoughts on “McDonalds in the mountains”: https://lnkd.in/ebKzhnY8 American College of Lifestyle Medicine

The underlying magic ✨ of Blue Zones is that the culture of these communities supports health and well-being. Culture is the shared behaviors, beliefs and attitudes of a group of people who share a common denominator. The commonality of a Blue Zone is geography. Cultures can also be defined by schools, religions, the workplace, etc. To my #LifestyleMedicine colleagues. We are doing important work that is not only changing the trajectory of our patients, but also #healthcare delivery in general. Our adult patients spend most of their waking hours in the workplace. If we are not helping our patients identify and address how their workplace is either supporting their health or harming their health, then we are not giving them the greatest chance of success on their health journey. If you are attending the annual American College of Lifestyle Medicine conference in Orlando this fall and you want to learn more about how the workplace influences our health and well-being, consider attending a pre-conference workshop on the topic. If that’s not your cup of tea and you just want to chat, send me a message. Best wishes on your own health and well-being journey. #LM2024 #EmployeeBenefits

American College of Lifestyle Medicine + Blue Zones = perfect match! Our current healthcare crisis is NOT a national willpower problem. Here me out... One of the MANY things I love about the Blue Zones is the emphasis on an entire ENVIRONMENT that supports the behaviors that lead to longevity. Blue Zone inhabitants don't get up every day and use their willpower thousands of times to make decisions. Their world just supports the decisions that lead to doing the things that lead to wellness with their food, movement, stress management, sleep, and social connections. ACLM and Blue Zones are teaching us all to make our own micro-environment and macro-environments support the decisions that make longevity easy. https://lnkd.in/gMwVjCq5

Mary was out on location last week at Linden Lodge, an NHS neuro-rehabilitation centre in Nottingham. She was there with Samuel Davies and Paul Kenney from the Innovate Comms collective to record conversations with staff about their work so far with The Lister Alliance to harness the power of technology to meet the most urgent needs of their patients. This specialist unit looks after patients with neurological conditions such as major trauma, brain/spinal injuries and diseases. It has only 25 beds but can take up to 1,000 nurse calls per day; so time, as you can imagine, is in short supply for staff. And even carving out the space required to consider innovation is hard. We interviewed the main digital leads, lead nurse and the ward sister (and digital champion at Linden) to find out how patients and staff are being put front and centre of the innovation process, ensuring that solutions are deployed to free up staff time to focus on patient care and give patients themselves some agency in their rehabilitation. It’s wonderful to speak to the people involved on the frontline. The human element of innovation is what really inspires us and is always so much more interesting than the technology itself. >>>>> The Lister Alliance works with NHS Trusts, practitioners, industry and academia to reshape the future of healthcare technology, creating better outcomes for patients. The Lister Alliance is funded by Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration programme. #Innovation #Communications #Technology #Healthcare
