As a post-transplant coordinator at UPMC Harrisburg, Tabitha educates her patients and their care partners about care and responsibilities following a kidney transplant, including diet, medications, and follow-up care. She maintains open communication with kidney recipients throughout the life of their new kidney, assists with medication changes, and arranges post-transplant consultations and diagnostic testing that may be needed following a transplant. “My favorite part of my role is the relationships that I have built with my patients and the trust that we have built over time. It is truly rewarding to see how well patients do after transplant and how they can get their quality of life back. A kidney transplant is life changing. I truly love my job!”

Aphids or STRESS?! If you recall a previous post of mine, I mentioned Farnesene, a sesquiterpene with the same mass as Caryophyllene, is said to be the main alarm pheromone of many types of aphids. As the proclaimed “COA guy”, I’ve noticed strange patterns in Farnesene levels through my 4 years as a FL MMJ patient: Some dispensaries dispense medicine with high concentrations of this terpene presented on COAs for MOST of their medicine, some dispensaries request labs that dont test for Farnesene at all! Some dispensaries have revised COAs after releasing products to drastically reduce the Farnesene %, and others aren’t aware until patients like me bring it to their attention. This past year was an undoubtably hot summer here in FL… with this, is the increasing Farnesene %’s a result of stress? Let’s talk about giving patients MORE reasons to trust COA’s!

Thrilled to announce the publication of a paper I co-authored: Outcomes in cirrhosis-related refractory ascites with emphasis on palliative care: single centre experience and literature review This paper aims to explore palliative care input in those with refractory ascites. RA is associated with high mortality but despite this, few patients are referred to the palliative care team. Key conclusions: - ‘RA is associated with high mortality with only a minority being eligible for curative options’ - ‘There needs to be a multifaceted approach to improve the end-of-life experience of patients and their caregivers with advanced cirrhosis including those with RA’ The full paper can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e53QkFtD

Unexpected Gratitude: How Our Patient Survey Turned into Heartfelt Thanks In our quest to advance the treatment of osteoid osteoma in Ukraine, we recently embarked on a project to gather data on the effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation. We initiated a patient survey, expecting to collect valuable information and insights to support our ongoing research. What we received, however, was far more profound. Instead of just data, our patients filled their responses with overwhelming gratitude. Messages of thanks poured in—expressing relief from pain, joy at returning to normal activities, and appreciation for the care they received. It’s moments like these that remind us of the real impact of our work. We set out to analyze outcomes, but what we found was a deeper connection with those we’ve treated. These expressions of thanks have fueled our passion and commitment to continue improving our methods, knowing that behind every procedure is a person whose life has been profoundly changed. This unexpected outpouring of gratitude has been humbling, and it reinforces our belief that RFA is not just a medical procedure—it’s a life-changing solution that we are proud to offer.
