Our 2Q24 results are another proof point that United Airlines and the industry are developing along the lines we’ve been predicting for the past few years – namely, that there have been permanent and structural changes that we believe will support United’s industry leading profitability for many years to come. I’m really proud of the United team for our prescient strategy and our strong execution that is leading to relative outperformance. But we know that absolute results matter more than relative results. While we anticipated changes, we’re very encouraged to see industry capacity adjustments happening even faster than we expected in the published schedules. We’re firmly committed to our “no excuses” philosophy to achieving our guidance which also means taking action on the things we can control regardless of what happens around us. That includes cutting our own capacity in 4Q which is an important tool for controlling our own destiny and hitting our financial commitments. Airline payments are becoming more complex. In the "old world" credit card payments were more or less the only payment option. But with increased card security requirements, gaining popularity of alternative payment methods – often with a very strong local touch – and airline distribution moving to NDC and offer and order management, payments become a focus area. Why does a customer login system for an airline have a hard dependency on third-party tracking? I've seen this happen with banks and insurance companies as well, where you simply cannot login if the system isn't able to send non-critical analytics to third-party domains. Can I book a flight and just keep it between the two of us KLM Royal Dutch Airlines?
