Attention Current and Former Healthcare Professionals! We need your feedback! At Wright State University, my team is developing a novel approach to how we educate and prepare undergraduates for careers in the health professions. We're uniquely postured with talent, resources and the opportunity to meaningfully empower our pre-health and pre-medicine students with the life and academic skills necessary to promote both success and wellness. #Success and #wellness. You cannot have one without the other. Full stop. I am asking for your feedback to help inform and guide us on what truly matters for our students. In our Center for Health Professions, we measure success in how well we empower our students toward holistic wellness and purposeful engagement in their chosen passion. If you currently work in the health professions: what knowledge, skills, or abilities do you wish you had as an undergraduate? What resources would have made a difference in your learning experience and ability to exercise self-care? Want to fix our healthcare system? Start with taking care of the people who ARE the healthcare system. Change begins here. #peoplefirst #healthcare #highereducation #prehealth #premed #WrightState #healthprofessions #medicine

"My advice for future students, lean into each other, build that community of trust, and take feedback as an opportunity to grow." This is what Ellison Chung distilled the Master of Health Leadership and Policy in Clinical Education into. After two years studying part-time, while balancing a position as an emergency room nurse, Ellison is now being recognized as a #risingstar in his industry! The journey required a fair bit of adaptation, something Ellison excelled at. "I remember there was one project where our team had the most amount of feedback and it felt like we had failed to deliver a quality presentation." It took a reframing to grow comfortable with this form of learning: "However, in our debrief, we recognized that our project only received that much feedback because partners were genuinely invested in our vision and wanting us to succeed in future iterations. Once we got that reframe and a little cheering up, we thrived!" It was a collaborative rather than critical approach that really helped Ellison to excel. "Through reading and interpreting #ESG reports, I started to understand how changes don’t need to be large, but start with the individual." Follow the link in the comments to read more about Ellison's journey through the #MHLP. Pracademic Educator, Global Researcher and Capacity Builder in Analytics, Applied Intelligence, Corporate Affairs, Health Trends & Strategy | 17x Book Author & Editor | Board Leader | Caregiver | Executive Advisor
This semester, I am teaching a new Medical College of Wisconsin graduate course I developed that applies environmental scanning, monitoring and engaged research approaches to some of the most vexing global #healthcare (HC) and medical issues we face. One of the lenses we apply is that of health #equity, or the ability for individuals, no matter their backgrounds or group affiliations, to have equitable access to the best available care. Mine and other courses/instructors in our program aim to prepare students to be global health leaders who learn by engaging "hands-on" with diverse local and global populations. To help our students become leaders, we employ community engaged approaches in our learning, research and service-based projects. Let me give you an example of a global problem we see in our scanning on a daily basis, that being behavioral healthcare. Serious mental illness and addictions (e.g., opioid, fentanyl use, etc.) have profound impacts on communities and families. These effects are felt everywhere, from tribal reservations to small towns to large cities and everything in between, and aren't restricted to certain geographies. Their presence, prevalence and complexity among lower-income people (among others) make them health equity issues that private market stakeholders have few incentives to solve. In the US, many of the afflicted are unable to find and receive care to help them overcome their conditions. Who doesn't know someone afflicted by these who is uncared for because they lack insurance and/or can't pay for treatment? Making things worse is the afflicted often end up in a vicious cycle where they can't pay because of their addictions and resultant impairment to their choice processes, thus reinforcing the root causes of their problems. I work with my students to develop and configure empathetic #mindsets, evidence-based #datasets, analytical-rigor supported by technologically sophisticated #toolsets, and research-informed #skillsets in order to create "living" (i.e., updatable, digital, smart) profiles of trends, issues, p-cubed and #stakeholders (TIPS). We work on crafting policies, programs & practices (aka, the p-cubed) to cover a range of stakeholding actors, all focused on improving conditions and outcomes for afflicted individuals and populations. This way, our student leaders & grads can help influence multiple layers of public policy, corporate policy and programs, as well as individual behavior and practices. Will this emergent intelligence-driven approach to global HC issues work in alleviating pressing conditions? Time will tell, but we can't wait. Our learning journey has begun. I'd welcome those of you with strong interests in these matters to reach out and chat, or to engage with our students.

Chief Marketing and Communications Officer || Vice President || Senior Healthcare Marketing and Communications Executive, Strategist, Innovator, Technologist & Creator
Today, I was honored to be a part of a historic announcement that brings together philanthropy and education to solve workforce development issues in the Appalachian Highlands and improve the lives of thousands of middle and high school kids for generations to come. Ballad Health, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Bloomberg Philanthropies, six local public schools in Northeast Tennessee and countless pipeline programs within the higher education realm - including my alma mater Emory & Henry College - came together to announce the Ballad Health Academy, a $15.3M initiative that will give students more opportunities and pathways to good jobs - right here at home - while also building the healthcare workforce of the future. The innovative school-within-a-school approach, addresses the unique rural nature of the Appalachian Highlands by providing access to accelerated education and training in a healthcare career, while maintaining the benefits of attending a child’s community school. The new program will incorporate in-person, virtual and in-hospital education and integrate healthcare career knowledge and job training with a high-quality, well-rounded high school experience for students throughout the region. Graduating students will have the opportunity to move directly into high-demand healthcare jobs with family-sustaining wages upon graduation from high school. We believe this model of local learning and pipeline development that begins in early education will propel students to be contributing members of the healthcare community and pursue a scholarship-supported degree in higher education, will also be a prototype for other industries with jobs in high demand. The total gift of $250M from Bloomberg Philanthropies to 10 geographies across the U.S., including Mass General Brigham, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Duke University Health System, Baylor Scott & White Health, Memorial Hermann Health System, Northwell Health, HCA Healthcare, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Atrium Health, will change the way we talk about workforce development in the healthcare space for decades to come. #BalladProud https://lnkd.in/eEdN9eC9
