Empowering Individuals: Active involvement in community initiatives gives individuals a voice in decisions that affect them directly. It allows them to shape the future of their community. Creating Positive Change: Communities thrive when members actively engage in making positive changes. Participation, whether through volunteering, advocacy, or leadership roles, can lead to tangible improvements in various aspects of community life. Supporting Local Economy: By participating in local events, supporting small businesses, and collaborating with local organizations, individuals contribute to the economic growth and sustainability of their community. Addressing Social Issues: Communities face various social challenges, such as homelessness, poverty, and inequality. Active participation enables individuals to work together to address these issues collaboratively, leading to more effective solutions.

Growing up in a community of single mothers, homelessness and chronic housing instability were constants in my life. Though I wasn't a foster child myself, my mother and aunts hailed from foster backgrounds, and so instability was a regular occurrence. Fast forward to 2024, serving and uplifting unhoused youth becomes my mission. The spaces God places me are on purpose, for a purpose. 🙏🏾 Youth homelessness is a super complex issue. Shelters are overcrowded, transitional housing is few, and affordable housing - don’t get me started. According to NCSL: 👉🏾 Each year, 1.5 million children and adolescents flee home due to family conflicts, abuse, or neglect, finding themselves homeless. 👉🏾 Over 250,000 children enter foster care annually, with more than 23,000 aging out each year. These youths face heightened risks of homelessness due to various factors, including unstable placements, histories of running away, and time spent in institutional settings. At Pour Over Love, the youth we serve encounter challenges unique to Atlanta, such as the prevalence of sex trafficking and the increasing presence of gangs and initiations. We're dedicated to empowering our youth through a comprehensive approach: expanding our resources to encompass career development, on-the-job training, mentorship, and networking opportunities, we aim to facilitate successful transitions. Our goal is ambitious yet attainable: within our 12-month cohorts, we strive to secure stable housing and meaningful careers for each individual, setting the stage for sustainable lifestyles. 🤝 Will you help me in transitioning the lives of Atlanta’s at-risk youth? Working throughout the pandemic, they have increased in size due to the demand for the service. Their mission, to eradicate rough sleeping and homelessness. With a bold vision and a talented team, they don't just offer support, they pioneer a revolution in care for individuals with learning difficulties and those facing the harsh realities of homelessness. 🤝🙇♀️ At the 💚 of Cornerstone's approach lies a commitment to individual empowerment. Through collaborative decision-making and holistic assessments involving families and carers, they craft bespoke support plans that pave the way for independence and fulfilment. It's not just about addressing needs; it's about nurturing dreams and aspirations. While the "Are the Children Well?" report may not be more than three years old it is still part of United Way of Waco-McLennan County's 100-year history. In 2021, the McLennan County Child Well-being Movement released "Are the Children Well?". This report highlighted challenges facing children and families in certain neighborhoods, emphasizing the need for comprehensive community support. The findings stressed the importance of a holistic, two-generational approach to child well-being, where family success is integral to children's thriving. In response, the McLennan County Child Well-being Community Action Plan has been developed, outlining strategies to improve local systems and policies. This plan aims to enhance outcomes for children and families across the county, requiring collaboration across sectors. It signals the beginning of a concerted effort to ensure all local families receive the support they need for children to flourish. Continued community engagement, strategizing, and action will drive lasting change for generations to come.
