As a leader, your primary focus should be driving performance and achieving results, right? ❌ Wrong. To bring out the best in your team, genuinely caring about their wellbeing must be at least just as important. Research shows that Psychosocial Safety Climate (PSC) is crucial for employee engagement and performance. It’s even been described as the “cause of causes” when it comes to creating a productive and healthy work environment. PSC reflects the shared belief among employees about how much their leaders prioritise their mental health and wellbeing. PSC has been found to predict: - Workplace stress - Engagement - Job satisfaction - Productivity - Creativity - Job performance As a leader, here are three things you can do to enhance PSC in your organisation: 1. Lead by example by visibly prioritising your own wellbeing. 🧘🏽♀️ 2. Make it safe to talk about mental health by speaking up yourself. 🗣 3. Embed employee wellbeing into your organisation’s DNA by measuring it as a business KPI and treating it as such. 📊 Ultimately, it comes down to genuinely caring, and that depends on seeing and honouring employees as human beings with needs just as important as your own. The truth is, being too focused on results can blind you to the obvious and be the very barrier holding you and your people back.
