We're celebrating our class of graduating @ladders4leaders interns - check out our new video here: https://buff.ly/3KSDXs6 Ladders for Leaders connects NYC high school and college students (16-24 years old) with paid internships and valuable pre-employment training. In the 2023-24 school year, University Settlement's youth + community programs hosted 20 interns across our program sites, many of whom you'll hear from in the video. 100% (!!) of our interns said they enjoyed the program and would like to continue in similar programs or job placements for summer. Intern Devin Joaquin said "I feel like [my internship] has made me better as a person, and more of an adult." #internwithimpact

While ProX Summer is making a name for itself as one of the largest paid summer internship programs in the country, what might get missed is the benefits to employers of all shapes and sizes in Kansas City. While ProX pays the student stipend, employers are free to employ students in relevant work and problem-solving without worrying about how to find or pay students. Last summer, 130 KC employers partnered with #ProX to provide internships and client projects. ProX Program Director Michael Robins said the demand from students to participate in the paid ProX experience continues to grow and more business partners of every kind will be needed to meet demand. "Students are looking to engage in large corporate settings, in small startups, in nonprofit organizations, and in every industry you can imagine,” Robins said. “We never want a potential business partner to think they are too small or too niche for our students. If the opportunity exists, we will do our best to find a student who matches it.” Learn more from three employers who participated in the 2023 summer experience: WeCode KC, Children's Mercy Kansas City, and Lead to Read KC. https://bit.ly/3t4POhm #paidinternship #internship #interns #ProX #kansascity

💫 Unlocking the Power of Paid Internships 🔈 Shout out to all Basta partners who hired interns this year Fisher Brothers, Build America Mutual , BNY Mellon, Citi, Bloomberg, S&P Global, and Deutsche Bank. 🎓 As National Internship Month comes to a close, it's time to shine a spotlight on the undeniable impact of these opportunities. Paid internships can be a game-changer for leveling the playing field in the journey from college to career. But here's also the harsh reality: while internships are hailed as the golden ticket to success, far too many students are left out of the equation. ❓ So, what gives? Internships are often unpaid, creating a financial barrier that holds students back, especially those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education. 💡 Read or re-read this op-ed by Winston Fisher calling for more paid internships to drive economic mobility https://lnkd.in/dJ2w7E7t Let’s close the employment gap together! #PaidInternships #CareerBoost #nationalinternshipmonth

I appreciated this article by Lindsay Ellis in The Wall Street Journal yesterday. As a Career Coach, I see college students want to begin their career exploration process during their first-year or sophomore year. However, many are unsure of what is the right career route (or major). The result for employers is that they are seeing lower conversion and retention from their internship programs. Despite an increasing number of companies providing compensation to their interns, it is evident that the existing internship system is still flawed. Today, internships play a vital role in securing post-graduation employment. However, when the most desirable internships are primarily accessible to individuals with insider information or social connections allowing them to apply a year and a half in advance, it perpetuates a cycle of inequality. Career Professionals! How are we adapting to earlier and earlier internship deadlines? How are we supporting students with shortened career exploration timeframes (not to mention shortened timelines from PSEO credits)? How do we advocate for ALL of our students by filling in the social equity gap? If I gave a TED Talk, it would be around this subject. 😂 https://lnkd.in/dYuFm-JR
The Race Is On to Hire Interns for 2025. Really.

How many internships did you do? My 16 year old son will be doing 10-12 mini internships this school year. They are called "Schnupperwochen" and I'm in love with the idea. The Swiss school system has its flaws. One of which is they push kids very young to decide what they want to do as careers. But if you aren't sure at 16, they have this option: Half school, half internships. It should be amazing, and American school and businesses should consider the option. Maybe not as dramatic as a whole school year worth of them, but facilitating mini internships with high school students. It would benefit everyone. https://lnkd.in/g9y2pr8y
