"ME-BYO(未病)is a Japanese concept that looks at health as a continuum and applies to all conditions between being “healthy” and “sick.” It’s a philosophy that we experienced and learned about during our trip. I embarked on a journey to explore Lake Ashi and see Mount Fuji, temples, and shrines echoing the past." Read more about palliative care graduate student, Daniel Mansour's, experience at Mt. Fuji on our Aging in Japan Blog: https://lnkd.in/eQAQHMSU #LifeInJapan #GlobalHealthAging

Hakone was a profound experience, blending cultural immersion, inspiring encounters with resilient older adults, and deep reflections on Japan's super-aging society, all while enjoying the beauty of nature, history, and the benefits of self-care in a well-preserved environment. "At Wakabadai, we saw many aspects of the key paradigms of gerontology—supporting the biopsychosocial well-being of older adults from a life course perspective—come to life. It is heartening to see how, in a place where 54% of the residents are older adults, the principles we learned in gerontology come into play to enable residents to live socially connected, meaningful lives in their later years. The Global Health Aging in Japan course has been the highlight of my education in gerontology!" -Yoon Chung, gerontology doctoral student. "Our first day back from Hakone is also our first properly rainy day in Kanagawa. Everyone is in rain ponchos or holding umbrellas, and we hit the subway to head to our first stop, the University of Tokyo, Hongo campus. It was the most crowded we’ve seen it on the subway!"
