Earlier this month, Dwan Perry, D.O., part of UK HealthCare’s physical medicine and rehabilitation, had the opportunity to serve as a ringside physician at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night. “The heart of USA Boxing is teaching the art and science of boxing while instilling principles of discipline, self-control and determination in young men and women,” said Perry. “It’s very humbling to be given the chance to assist with an event as large as UFC. Receiving a call from the commission is a true honor.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/ei-Ui6TZ

This is a tricky one. Differential diagnosis in MSK can be challenging, especially in case of more coexisting conditions. I have previously posted a case of tennis leg syndrome in association with medial gastrocnemius vein thrombosis: this is a similar case but trickier as the vein involved is the small saphenous one. According to my personal experience the association between tennis leg injury and thrombosis is far more frequent than reported in literature, I would say between 30% and 40% of patients with TL walking in my clinic will show some vascular disease. The mechanism resposnable for this high rate could be related to either the limited weight bearing due to pain (so less muscular pump) or vessels compression by intramuscular hematoma (in case of more severe injuries). Now, I am not a vascular sonographer, but my clinical suspicions have always been confirmed by specialists (even if sometimes it took more than one opinion). So the take home message is that MSKUS can be a great tool to roughly screen non-MSK consitions, with 2 main benefits for patients: - avoid useless or harmful MSK treatments - refer patient to the correct specialist avoiding loss of time Don't stop at the first condition that you might bumped into, search for more. - I suggest to watch the clip on laptop full screen -

Rugby's greatest championship, the Six Nations is just around the corner🏉 Sadly, rugby is too often marred by concussion and brain injury. As a community our main concern is about the long term effects on brain health (TBI) and reflected by clinicians, hence the importance of understanding brain injuries in sport and trying to make games like rugby safer. This study, led by Michail Ntikas found that 31% of patients with seemingly minor injuries and negative results on a CT showed persistent functional limitations after TBI at the six-month follow up. The article by Ntikas and his colleagues is timely and addresses an important topic, because a subgroup of those who experience [mild TBI] continue to report lingering symptoms beyond the typical recovery window, As a step in the right direction, players in the forthcoming six nations will wear smart mouthguards to detect head injuries that require off-field assessment. The area still remains poorly understood and there is plenty more to achieve in TBI! Six Nations Rugby #medicalimaging #rugbyunion

Watch "How Eddie Hall CHEATED World Strongest Man Competition" "The power of hyperbaric chambers"!!!!!! https://lnkd.in/eHVshmGc Short clip on how Eddie Hall used hyperbaric chambers for getting better results lifting and recovery. Hyperbaric chambers are being used in homes, for pro athletes (NFL, MBA, NBA) and wellness centers. https://lnkd.in/eCNAkdbZ Learn more about Hyperbaric chambers below - plus see some of our 3 models of hyperbaric https://lnkd.in/eCNAkdbZ Hyperbaric chambers, also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chambers, offer several benefits for various medical conditions. Here are some of the key advantages: Enhanced Oxygen Delivery: Increased Oxygen Saturation: HBOT allows patients to breathe 100% oxygen at pressures higher than atmospheric pressure, which significantly increases the oxygen saturation in blood and tissues. Improved Cellular Function: Higher oxygen levels improve cellular metabolism and energy production, aiding in faster healing and recovery. Accelerated Healing: Wound Healing: HBOT is particularly effective for non-healing wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, and pressure sores, by promoting new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) and tissue regeneration. Infection Control: Bacterial Inhibition: The high oxygen environment inhibits the growth of certain anaerobic bacteria and enhances the effectiveness of antibiotics. Immune System Support: HBOT enhances the killing ability of white blood cells and promotes the destruction of harmful bacteria and toxins. Reduced Inflammation and Swelling: Anti-Inflammatory Effects: HBOT reduces inflammation by decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines and swelling, which can be beneficial for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and sports injuries. Edema Reduction: It helps reduce edema (swelling) in tissues, contributing to pain relief and improved mobility. Neurological Benefits: Stroke Recovery: HBOT can improve outcomes in stroke patients by increasing oxygen supply to the brain, promoting neuronal repair, and reducing brain swelling. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): It supports brain recovery after TBI by reducing brain inflammation and enhancing neurogenesis (the formation of new neurons). Improved Chronic Conditions: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS): Patients with CFS may experience improved energy levels and reduced symptoms. Fibromyalgia: Some studies suggest that HBOT can alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for fibromyalgia patients. Enhanced Recovery in Sports Medicine: Injury Recovery: Athletes use HBOT to recover faster from injuries, surgeries, and intense training sessions by reducing muscle fatigue and promoting tissue repair. Performance Enhancement: Some athletes report improved endurance and reduced recovery times. #hyperbaricchamber

Chronic neuromuscular pain refers to persistent pain associated with the muscles and the nervous system. This type of pain can be characterized by several features: 1. **Chronic Nature**: It lasts for an extended period, typically more than three to six months. 2. **Neuromuscular Origin**: The pain originates from problems in the muscles, nerves, or the interaction between them. 3. **Symptoms**: These can include muscle pain, weakness, tingling, numbness, or spasms. The pain might be constant or intermittent. 4. **Causes**: It can be caused by a variety of conditions, including nerve damage (neuropathy), chronic conditions like fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injuries, poor posture, or underlying health issues. 5. **Impact on Daily Life**: Chronic neuromuscular pain can significantly affect a person’s quality of life, limiting mobility, strength, and daily activities.
