Today is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). As extreme weather changes increase the risk of natural disasters, UPU remains committed to supporting the UN’s actions in #DisasterRiskReduction through developing respective policies for the postal sector, helping posts adapt themselves as well as enhance their communities' resilience to disasters. Given their extensive network, post offices and mail processing centres can act as distribution points for emergency supplies, help coordinate emergency aid operations and provide much needed money transfers to victims in affected areas as well as a basic means of communication. By working together, we can #BreakTheCycle of disaster and support those most in need🤝 Learn more about UPU’s work in DRR here: https://bit.ly/3M0vwvP #DRRDay

🦅 Happy World #MigratoryBird Day! Today, we celebrate and protect migratory #birds and the delicate ecosystems they rely on as they journey across continents. This year’s theme, Protect Insects, Protect Birds, highlights the essential role that insects play in the survival of migratory birds. #Insects provide vital food for birds, especially during migration and breeding season. Yet, due to climate change, deforestation, and pesticide use, insect populations are declining - putting migratory birds at risk as well. These beautiful #stamps from Egypt remind us of the shared responsibility to preserve our planet's #biodiversity and take action for these remarkable travelers. https://bit.ly/3U7MtIB #philately Egypt Post

The #WorldPostDay and #UPU150 ceremony at the UPU headquarters in Berne was a celebration of the past and the future of global postal services🚀 The event brought together high-level guests, each sharing powerful messages that honored the post’s pivotal role in connecting people. The ceremony began with inspiring #WorldPostDay messages from the UPU Director General and the United Nations Secretary-General. We also heard from UPU partners like World Customs Organization, International Telecommunication Union, International Civil Aviation Organization, OTIF - Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail, and World Trade Organization, along with messages from UPU members and their postal services. Adding a touch of history, attendees enjoyed a performance of the UPU anthem - a recently rediscovered piece composed for the UPU’s 100th anniversary🎼 Thank you to everyone who joined us in Berne and around the world. The #WorldPostDay and #UPU150 celebrations continue in #Berne! This morning, we gathered at the historic UPU Monument in Kleine Schanze Park🌳 The ceremony featured remarks from UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki, Evi Allemann, President of the Canton of Berne Kanton Bern, and Alec von Graffenried, Mayor of Berne. Together, they unveiled a new sign at the monument, symbolizing the UPU’s enduring connection with the beautiful city of Berne, our home and inspiration since 1874⏳ In addition to the new sign, two commemorative plaques on the monument mark UPU’s legacy: one placed on its 100th anniversary in 1974 and another for the 125th anniversary in 1999. The monument, crafted by French sculptor René de Saint-Marceaux, embodies the spirit of international postal cooperation. Its image of five women passing letters around a globe has become a symbol of global communication and unity, appearing on stamps worldwide✉ The figure of Berna at the base serves as a tribute to the city as the birthplace of UPU. The celebrations continue - stay tuned! 📻
