My name is Tamika McConaughey and I'm the first team PA on Twisters and this is my story. I am a Washington DC native, started my career in radio actually. Then towards the end I was able to crossover to film and TV. First team is all the characters and cast are in front of the camera getting them wired, I'm getting them propped, I'm getting them last looked so they walk on that set ready to go. Action running. First team is creative in itself. You're dealing with different personalities. This is a liaison position. I have to deal with sound, I have to deal with makeup, I have to deal with costumes, I have to deal with everybody. I'm tenacious. It really is 90% learning to read rooms and being able. To maneuver it, I'm a mom. I teach my son to do the same thing and the legacy that I'm leaving this for him. Every day is something different. My favorite part about working on sets, honestly, is daily comedy. It's always gonna be something. No matter how hot you are, how cold, how stressed, how many hours, it's always going to be something that is just comical that breaks through all of that. Secret team succeeding in his job is telling the truth with humor. You have to come with fun energy cause when they're down you have to crack jokes and you have to pull it up because if not, it's gonna bring you down. So make your day. You're not getting wet, so you're good teacher for your hot chocolate. I'm making a legacy. The only way to do that is to keep learning.
