As filmmakers, we often pour our hearts into projects that may never make it to the big screen. Yet, every step in the pitching process, from detailed research and script breakdowns to financial planning, strengthens our skills and builds our resilience.
Recently, I’ve been working on a pitch that has allowed me to dive deep into these elements, sharpening my vision while managing the logistics of production. Even though there's no guarantee that this project will be greenlit, the experience has been invaluable. It’s a reminder that the journey of filmmaking—the dedication to the craft and the strategic preparation—can be rewarding in ways that are different from the final product.
I’d love to hear from fellow directors and producers: What have you learned from projects that didn’t move forward? How has the pitching process shaped your approach to filmmaking?
Let’s keep the conversation going and support each other in this ever-evolving industry!
