This #internationalwomensday #iwd2024 we're highlighting ways to support women who are not only developing innovations to address major public needs, but scaling them to new heights 🚀. Challenge prizes arguably have a great ability to recognise and reward solutions from “unusual suspects,” and can prove highly supportive of women entrepreneurs. Based on rich evidence from the Challenge Works Afri-Plastics Prize, here's how you can design challenges to bolster women innovators and their economic contribution, and support them in scaling their businesses to new heights: 1. Inclusive Design: ensuring women are encouraged to participate and have equal opportunities to succeed. 2. Engagement and Awareness: providing support and resources to facilitate women's participation, from targeted outreach, to capacity-building initiatives, and networking opportunities. 3. Flexible Solutions: women may face unique challenges and constraints in participating in challenge prizes, such as caregiving responsibilities or limited access to resources. Prize structures should be flexible enough to accommodate diverse needs and allow for innovative solutions that address these challenges. 4. Collaboration and Partnerships: with relevant stakeholders, including women-led organisations, community groups, and government agencies to ensure challenge prizes effectively support women. 5. Recognition and Visibility: celebrating the contributions of women participants in challenge prizes, providing them with visibility and opportunities for professional development and networking. *Update: New date for Women on Stage Global Virtual Conference 2023* A month ago, we shared our difficult decision to postpone Women on Stage Global Virtual Conference due to the events that took place in Israel on October 7th.  After careful consideration, we decided to move forward with the conference. At Women On Stage, our mission has always been *amplifying women’s voices and bringing them to the front*. We feel strongly that this mission is more important than ever right now, as *we all need more female role models to lead the way*. We won’t let hatred deter us from this mission. We understand that some of you may still feel overwhelmed by the recent events - we can relate. Hopefully, the virtual conference can provide a mental getaway, and allow us to get inspired by some of the best women leaders in the global tech scene, gain practical value, and learn something new. To celebrate #InternationalWomensDay this Friday 8 March, we asked four inspirational women in our organisation what this year's theme, 'Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress' means to them. "In a world striving for equality and fairness, the empowerment of women stands as a beacon of progress and hope. Investment in women: This turbocharges a future where everyone can thrive, creating boundless opportunities and a prosperous world. Ideally, investment could start as early as in childhood through grants and scholarship programs, access to healthcare and nutrition programs, through to women-led startups and businesses, fair wages and equal pay, women’s representation on corporate boards, participation in politics and decision-making. Accelerate Progress: Progress begins with individual actions that collectively contribute to a larger impact. I am an advocate to creating, enabling and supporting change by mentoring women, attending networking events, shopping local, promoting businesses run by women entrepreneurs, raising awareness about women’s rights and challenges and engaging in these conversations with family, friends and colleagues. Working with women in tech for women is the future. Women have Women’s issues that apply to work space safety, children, relationships (personal, parents, disabled, health) war, politics and entrepreneurship. We have different issues that need addressing. Facts. UN Women. We need to work and collaborate together more fora better future for all.
