United Way for Greater Austin’s Post

📢 There is an exciting advocacy opportunity with Travis County, and we need your voice to help expand high-quality affordable childcare. We are excited the Travis County Commissioners Court is strongly considering a ballot initiative for sustainable funding to support high-quality, affordable childcare this fall. This would expand access to quality programs for children and youth, support working families, and help to provide better pay to staff and resources for children and youth across Travis County. United Way recently formed the Affordable Childcare Now! Coalition to advance this initiative along with interested organizations, families, and individuals. We want the Commissioners Court to hear the overwhelming support from all sectors of the community for putting affordable childcare on the ballot in November. How you can help: 🤝 Join the coalition to stay up-to-date on events and information https://lnkd.in/gSDmsdWu 📞 Contact your Travis County Judge and Commissioner by May 13 in support of putting affordable childcare on the ballot! https://lnkd.in/gTzYPKZD 🙌 Attend the Commissioners Court meeting on May 14 at 9 am to show your support. You can also join us for a press conference that same day at 12:45 pm, where Travis County Judge Brown, Commissioner Travillion, our CEO David C. Smith, and other local leaders will speak. 💙 Share this advocacy alert with your network! Your help is critical, as we show Travis County just how important this is for our children, working families, and regional economy Here at United Way for Greater Austin, we’ve been strengthening the local early childhood education sector for nearly two decades through innovative programming and facilitating the Success By 6 Coalition. Nurturing our youngest is the key to unlocking a future of equality and prosperity, while providing their parents flexibility and mobility. We know 90% of all brain development happens in the first five years of life and experiences during those early years build the architecture of the brain, making this work instrumental for a thriving region.

I love hearing about this! Childcare is the second highest cost in a household right after the mortgage. It’s definitely an issue that needs to be addressed. When families thrive, our communities thrive. Thank you United Way for Greater Austin for the work that you do!
