Thursday is Nelson Mandela International Day, an opportunity to honour Madiba's commitment to freedom, justice and equality. We commemorate his journey from prisoner to President of South Africa, and the triumph of an extraordinary individual against the forces of hate, ignorance and fear. "We hold it as an inviolable principle that racism must be opposed by all the means that humanity has at its disposal,” Mandela said during the Special Committee Against Apartheid in the UN General Assembly Hall in June 1990. He exemplified the power of courage, reconciliation and forgiveness to overcome the injustice of racial discrimination. “Nelson Mandela showed us the extraordinary difference one person can make in building a better world,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Let’s honour Madiba’s legacy and turn our hands towards building a better world for all.” https://lnkd.in/ggZ_AXG

The greatest tribute we can pay to this rare and unique leader, would be to continue the pursuit of his vision for a better and a more just world. What unites us is greater than what divides us and no one should be left behind or pushed aside "... there is no easy road to freedom. We know it well that none of us acting alone can achieve success. We must therefore act together as a united people, for national reconciliation, for nation building, for the birth of a new world. Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all”.

As a UN HRO for the AOJ & Rule of Law in KRI-Iraq, I deeply resonate with the reflections shared on Nelson Mandela International Day. Mandela's journey from prisoner to President serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the potential for transformative change. His unwavering commitment to freedom, justice, and equality continues to inspire our work in promoting human rights globally. Mandela's assertion that "racism must be opposed by all the means that humanity has at its disposal" is particularly relevant today as we confront ongoing challenges related to discrimination and inequality. His legacy teaches us the importance of courage, reconciliation, and forgiveness in the face of adversity—principles that are essential in our efforts to foster peace and justice in conflict-affected regions like Iraq. As we honor Madiba's legacy, let us commit to embodying his values in our daily work. Together, we can strive to build a better world for all, ensuring that the principles of human rights and dignity are upheld for every individual, regardless of their background. Thank you for highlighting this important day and the enduring impact of Nelson Mandela's life and work.

Written by Mandela: QQ During my presidency, Parliament authorised me to issue two proclamations dealing with the elections in the Western Cape Province. That provincial government took me to the Constitutional Court which overruled me in a unanimous judgement. As soon as I was informed of the judgment, I called a press conference and appealed to the general public to respect the decision of the highest court in the land on constitutional matters. QQ The departure point for any leader, respect for the constitution and the executive's subservience to the judiciary to determine what is, and what isn't, constitutional, (and not, we may add, to use personal popularity, appeals to nationalistic instincts or the demonization of those with differing ideologies to usurp an adverse judicial finding).

#MandelaDay Say No to Discrimination, Victimization, Marginalization and Vindictiveness. BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY!! Let us Empower, Build Up and Share the Wealth.... There is enough for everyone but I don't think that many of us realise that what we have, is to also help those less fortunate. As hoarding, having exorbitant, boastful lifestyles - while others suffer - seem to be the order of the day. Certainly puts things in perspective. We absolutely need commitment to humanity, dignity, justice, sharing and collaboration with respect. I find it funny that persons like myself - who do not have the means as some other persons - will sacrifice to empower and assist many to help them change, get jobs, become financially stable and on a path to fulfil their destiny. To help persons through this process requires psychosocial and other support, so that they are properly equipped to walk through doors of opportunities. Changing mindsets and culture embedded in persons for generations are no easy task but we really need changemakers, leaders, government etc to lead by example and be on the same page - not make the process more difficult. 🙏🙏

Mr. Guterres, if you have a feeling that we are human beings, save me from my situation and resettle us to Europe. We are a Syrian family of 6 people living in deprivation and poverty without education, housing, or food, and I am an old man. Please save us 00966594471226 Jeddah.
