🗣️ The demand for sustainable, institutional change in youth engagement was a recurring theme at the 2024 #UNECOSOC Youth Forum. 📢 United Nations Youth Office’s Dr. Sudha Balakrishan calls for us to go beyond tokenism and integrate young people in the decision-making. 💻 To ensure that youth-led ideas are not just heard but also acted upon, the United Nations 🇺🇳 can create a database for youth-submitted policy ideas to help shape global policy agendas. 📊 This database would include evidence of what youth think works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). 🌱 The database would give youth a platform to contribute meaningfully and give policymakers a better understanding of young perspectives. The Ministry of Youth, bearing the plate number COP 2030, is uniquely positioned to facilitate a crucial connection between the COP Presidency and the youth stakeholders. It can serve as a vital conduit to streamline youth coordination between governments and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Ministry can help bridge the gap between the COP Presidency and youth stakeholders by creating a more effective and efficient communication channel. By serving as a missing link, the Ministry can help bring together the young generation and the policymakers to address the climate change challenge more comprehensively. The Youth Ministry Champion convoy will recognize the importance of amplifying the voices of all young people, especially those often marginalized due to their age, ethnicity, disability, or socioeconomic status. The committee is committed to providing a platform for substantive youth policy input and outcomes that will contribute to positive social change. To this end, the YMCC emphasizes engaging and empowering youth from the most vulnerable communities, including indigenous peoples and communities at the highest risk. Through its efforts, the YMC seeks to promote a more inclusive and equitable society that values the contributions of all its members. The role of the Youth Ministry Champion Convoy is to amplify the influence of organizations focused on and led by young people within the COP process. This entails collaborating with local and global stakeholders to provide youth capacity-building opportunities and establish mechanisms for funding innovative youth-led initiatives in the field. Such an approach facilitates the amplification of youth-led initiatives and their impact, which is in line with the goals of the COP process. To achieve this, the Youth Ministry Champion Convoy will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the interests and priorities of young people are taken into account in developing policies and strategies.
