The Government of Malaysia - UNICEF Annual Review Meeting 2024 took place yesterday in Putrajaya, chaired by YB Datuk Dr. Zunika binti Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), Ministry of Economy, Dr. Myo-Zin Nyunt, Deputy Regional Director, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, and was joined by YBhg. Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Permanent Secretary, Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, key government partners and the UNICEF Malaysia team. We are grateful for the opportunity to discuss the year that was and reflect on key achievements and chart our future together for the best interests of children. Malaysia has been a shining example of how strong government leadership, combined with effective partnerships, led to impactful change for the rakyat. Since our establishment in 1954, UNICEF Malaysia is proud to be a trusted partner, witnessing the success and economic transformation over the last seven decades from a developing country to an Upper Middle-Income Country, expected to transition to High Income by 2028. During the review, UNICEF presented on progress made to strengthen systems, particularly in the areas of policy advocacy, evidence generation, and modelling innovative solutions to ensure all children in Malaysia fulfil their full potential. As we look ahead, we aim to tackle emerging challenges such as child poverty, malnutrition, declined learning outcomes and equity, violence against children and climate risk and disaster preparedness. Additionally, we must ensure that adolescents are supported, empowered, and have meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that affect them. We thank the Government of Malaysia, specifically the Kementerian Ekonomi Ministry of Economy, for unwavering leadership and a shared commitment to this mission. Together, we look forward to take the partnership to new height in 2025. #BersamaMalaysia #UnicefBersamaMalaysia #MalaysiaMadani #ConventionOnTheRightsOfTheChild

🌟 Let's remember, "It all starts with evidence - the data” by Kyungsun Kim, Representative UNICEF Thailand. Excited to be part of the UNICEF Thailand Team in Mae Hong Son province, nestled in the breathtaking forested mountains bordering Myanmar. Today, MICS 2022 survey data are leveraged to empower local authorities in crafting tailored solutions for children. 🌳👦👧 The workshop emphasizes an area-based approach, breaking down silos for more effective planning. The widespread utilization of MICS 2022 survey results for the national level planning underscores its importance. In response to the demand for localized data, sample has been also increased in specific provinces, one of which is Mae Hong Son. 📊💡 Check out the 2022 MICS Provincial report for insights! https://lnkd.in/dwjBntWB #UNICEF #ChildDevelopment #UNICEFThailand #DataDrivenSolutions

Yesterday, the UNICEF South Africa forum for private sector engagement (UNICEF SA CEO Network) initiated a series of consultations, co-convened by the United Nations system in South Africa, focusing on the significance of partnerships in fulfilling the commitments made to people, communities, and children with the establishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the session, reflections from various partners highlighted their surprise at the slow global progress in achieving the SDG targets, despite collective efforts. Questions arose regarding accountability, data capture, and metrics used for tracking progress. Look at data from the 2023 report (https://lnkd.in/dDhSETvR), which shows South Africa's progress towards the 2030 agenda. The report indicates positive trends in 33% of the targets, 23% with no significant change, and 11% showing no progress. Notably, 33% of the SDG targets lack sufficient or new data for monitoring progress. While the initial discussion (at my table) didn't delve into the implications of this data for the Private Sector, there was a consensus for the United Nations to strategically engage with Corporates in South Africa on this matter. Looking ahead, preparations are underway to present these arguments at a high-level discussion scheduled for February 2025. Stay tuned for more updates! #SDGs #Partnerships #UNICEFSACEONetwork

At the heart of UNICEF’s mission lies a powerful promise: For Every Child. In 2023, our Core Resources (RR) have empowered us to tackle crises, pioneer innovative solutions, and invest in the future of children in 192 countries. Despite the challenges we face, RR funding has fueled transformative strides toward multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the East Asia and the Pacific region, Cambodia stands as a shining example of the profound impact of RR. Over the past 20 years, strategic investments have contributed to a remarkable 75% reduction in under-five mortality. This achievement underscores the relentless dedication of individuals, partners, and supporters who champion UNICEF’s mission through RR. By supporting RR, you help us create lasting, systemic change. Together, we can ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Reflecting on my first 3 months as UNV at UNICEF Tunisie : 3 lessons learned. This journey has been both enlightening and inspiring. I had the opportunity to work on crucial themes such as education and early dropout issues, WASH , access to clean water and sanitary facilities, as well as climate change and environmental threats. Here are three valuable lessons I had the privilege of learning along the way : 1- Children are the center of every intervention : Every decision and action at UNICEF is guided by the principle that the well-being and rights of children are paramount. Whether it's through education, health, or social protection programs, the focus remains on creating positive impacts in the lives of children. 2-Children's rights are interconnected and interdependent : Understanding that every child's right is linked to another highlights the holistic approach needed to truly make a difference in their lives. For example, ensuring a child's right to education often involves addressing their health and nutrition needs as well. Recognizing this interconnectedness allows us to design more comprehensive and effective programs. 3- Risk management and early detection are key : Proactively identifying and addressing risks early on is crucial for effective and sustainable interventions. By focusing on early detection, we can prevent potential issues from escalating, ensuring better outcomes for children and their communities. This approach underscores the importance of preparedness and proactive measures over reactive responses. Grateful for this journey and looking forward to continuing to learn and evolve ! 💡 Government budgets play a big role in shaping children’s futures. But in East Asia and the Pacific, many countries aren’t spending enough on the basics children need to grow up healthy, safe, and educated. When budgets don’t measure up, the most vulnerable children miss out on essential services like healthcare, education, and social protection. That’s why the EU and UNICEF are teaming up through the renewed Public Finance Facility. Together, we’re supporting governments in eight South and Southeast Asian countries to prioritize children and their families in public budgets, invest smarter, and build a better future for everyone. We are excited to be kicking off phase two of this partnership at the "Prioritizing Tomorrow: Strategic Spending for Children's Rights and Resilience in Asia" event taking place in Bangkok. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g_ws32kH UNICEF Thailand UNICEF Philippines UNICEF Mongolia UNICEF Viet Nam UNICEF EU UNICEF Bangladesh UNICEF Sri Lanka Christina Popivanova Andrea Rossi Jana Gilbert William Naughton Shruti Sharma June Kunugi

April 29th, 2024 marks the beginning of the 57th session of Comission on Population and Development #CPD57 in New York on the theme: « Assessing the status of implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development #poa #CIPD30 and its contribution to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development ». 30 years after the delivery of a high commitment towards humanity by 179 countries and territories, the ICPD agenda is more than ever relevant especially for countries like Burundi where progresses have been made with challenges still present. The 9th Country Programme 2024-2027 #cpd9bdi of UNFPA Burundi intends to address the unfinished business and accelerate the march towards the #SDGs and the Pact for the Future. In this line of work, I often get asked, if solving some of the world's most difficult issues is even possible? And my answer has always been, within this generation, maybe. But in generations to come, yes definitely. Our children will be the ones to achieve net zero, through new and exciting technologies that we cannot even imagine possible today. Our children will have jobs that does not exist in our time, and their socio-economic dynamics will be far different from ours now. Our children will be the ones to break the cycles of poverty and enable us to thrive as a high-income country, together. Our children will be the ones to materialize ideals that our generation is too antiquated to embrace: Gender equality, equitable prosperity, environmental harmony and dare I say this - world peace. Our legacy is clear. We shall be known (and judged) as the generation that enabled (or did not enable) this to happen. Through education, nutrition and other opportunities, history must remember us as the generation that listened and opened doors. Thank you UNICEF Malaysia for the invitation to be part of the consultation.
A heartfelt thank you to all the representatives from the business sector who joined our recent consultation on the 2026-2030 UNICEF Malaysia Country Programme. Your invaluable insights and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for advancing children's rights in Malaysia were truly inspiring. As we work towards a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous future for every child, particularly the most vulnerable, your commitment to responsible business conduct, innovation, and collaboration is key to achieving our shared goals. The discussions we had on topics such as the digital economy and family-friendly policies were not only thought-provoking but also highlighted the critical role the private sector plays in shaping a brighter future for children and young people in Malaysia. Thank you again for your commitment to creating a better world for children!

📢 UNICEF Evaluation is proud to have supported the new Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) #IASC Learning Paper reviews lessons from recent ‘Scale-Up’ activations in #Afghanistan, #Ethiopia, #Haiti and #Somalia with the aim of improving future responses. ⭐ It finds that the scale-up mechanism generally succeeded in its primary objective of mobilizing operational capacities and resources. ⭐ It was also perceived by #humanitarian actors as fulfilling other functions, such as: ⛑️ ⛑️ reinforcing the humanitarian nature of the response 🎯🎯 strengthening collective working ⚠️ ⚠️ signaling the severity of a #crisis, in part because this might attract greater attention and funding. However, there was no direct connection between activation and an increase in funding. The paper suggests several areas for reflection, including whether scale-up activations and their objectives should be changed so that they are a better match with what people think they are supposed to do. ✨ Find out more: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e43WC3CG 👈 #IASCScaleup Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Mervat Shelbaya United Nations OCHA Ramiz Alakbarov Michele Tarsilla, Ph.D. in Evaluation Carlotta Tincati Robert McCouch Kerry Albright #evaluation
