Recent global evaluation I had the privilege of leading, underscore the importance of Universal Child Benefit, a cornerstone of UNICEF’s global strategy tackling child wellbeing. This approach is instrumental in creating a world where every child enjoys the right to thrive. It’s about ensuring that benefits reach all children, emphasizing universalism as the key to inclusive progress. Universal Child Benefit is crucial for establishing a comprehensive system that leaves no child behind. By integrating healthcare, education, nutrition, and social protection, we lay the foundation for the holistic development and well-being of every child, regardless of their circumstances. This is more than just a series of interventions; it’s about building environments that nurture, protect, and empower children universally. This strategy tackles the deep-seated issues of childhood deprivation and paves the way for sustainable, long-term advancements in children’s lives. This important evaluation highlights the effectiveness of leaning towards universalism in child benefits. Reflecting on my first 3 months as UNV at UNICEF Tunisie : 3 lessons learned. This journey has been both enlightening and inspiring. I had the opportunity to work on crucial themes such as education and early dropout issues, WASH , access to clean water and sanitary facilities, as well as climate change and environmental threats. Here are three valuable lessons I had the privilege of learning along the way : 1- Children are the center of every intervention :   Every decision and action at UNICEF is guided by the principle that the well-being and rights of children are paramount. Whether it's through education, health, or social protection programs, the focus remains on creating positive impacts in the lives of children. 2-Children's rights are interconnected and interdependent :   Understanding that every child's right is linked to another highlights the holistic approach needed to truly make a difference in their lives. For example, ensuring a child's right to education often involves addressing their health and nutrition needs as well. Recognizing this interconnectedness allows us to design more comprehensive and effective programs. 3- Risk management and early detection are key :   Proactively identifying and addressing risks early on is crucial for effective and sustainable interventions. By focusing on early detection, we can prevent potential issues from escalating, ensuring better outcomes for children and their communities. This approach underscores the importance of preparedness and proactive measures over reactive responses. Grateful for this journey and looking forward to continuing to learn and evolve ! Many structural parts of the brain play a tremendous role during those few minutes of interaction or playtime, which impact a child's brain development in different ways! Playtime matters!!! Piaget's theory of cognitive development and Vygotsky's social development theory are two theories that explain how this interconnection works.

The Global Campus - Children Leadership Team is this exciting group of children (10 - 15 year olds) within the Global Campus of Human Rights network. In the first ever child -led international in Nepal 2022, 111 of these children ( from 9 countries, speaking 11 languages) and 298 adult scholars/ practitioners on children's rights, came together and engaged in cross-regional and intergenerational discussions on topic that children had brought forth as the most urgent issues affe ting them worldwide; Violence Against Children, Child Education, and Unhealthy Competition. The consequences on adolescent mental health was damaging they said. A year after the Nepal Conference, The GC - CLT has blossomed into an amazing set of children in Africa ( Kenya and Malawi) Asia Pacific ( Bangladesh, Thailand, India, Bhutan, Pakistan), Caucasus ( Armenia), South Eastern Europe ( Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia) and Middle East ( Palestine, Lebanon, Syria). ...and the children are leading in child-led program designs to create agency in the areas of Advocacy, Education and Child-informed Adult research of contemporary issues...

𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 In view of the "International Day of the Rights of the Child" on November 20, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the National Assembly, aims to facilitate a dialogue with young individuals during the national gathering. This objective was shared by the UNICEF delegation during discussions with the President of the National Assembly, Marinus Bee MSc. LL.B. The National Assembly's clerk, Ruth de Windt, and Steven Ishwardat, Advisor on International Relations, also participated in this meeting on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. The current situation and challenges faced by children in Suriname will be the focus of this dialogue. UNICEF advocates for the enactment of legislation to establish a Children's Ombudsman Bureau and the Hague Treaty. Despite the global acknowledgment of children's rights in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it has been observed that these rights are being violated worldwide. UNICEF, as the United Nations' children's rights organization, aims to aid in rectifying these violations, offering assistance during emergencies, collaborating with governments and partners, and advocating for the safeguarding of children's rights. Javier Cordoba, Program Manager at UNICEF Suriname, Sandhya Hanoeman, Child Protection Officer, and Mahogany Neede, Communications Officer, represented UNICEF during the aforementioned meeting.
