Working on a paper with the RAISE Romanian American Institute for Smart Energy experts, I realized today marks the 781st day of the war in Ukraine. I never thought this war would last so long, with so many losses and dramatic changes in the global energy landscape and beyond. Despite the formidable challenges presented by Russia’s invasion, the energy sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The conflict sparked the first truly global energy crisis in February 2022, yet we've witnessed a gradual easing of energy prices from their record highs over the past two years. However, the challenges persist, with price fluctuations impacting economies worldwide and impeding progress towards universal electricity access. Amidst this uncertainty, governments worldwide prioritize energy security, leading to a shift in oil and natural gas trade patterns. Additionally, there's been a surge in cleaner energy alternatives driven by policies introduced after February 2022. The expansion of renewable power generation capacity and the popularity of clean technologies like electric vehicles are testaments to our commitment to a sustainable future. We remain vigilant and proactive in building a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable energy future in these turbulent times. Together, we can drive positive change and shape a world where energy is a force for good. Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak met with a delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, headed by Ulrike Hopp-Nishanka, head of the working group on Ukraine. Representatives of GIZ and the German Embassy also joined the discussion. What was discussed? ✅ Restoration of the energy sector: the needs of Ukraine's energy sector in the face of challenges caused by targeted attacks on energy infrastructure were discussed. ✅ Resilience of the energy system: attention was paid to regional cooperation and the effectiveness of the use of aid. ✅ Reforms and integration: the reform of the energy market and its integration with the EU market were discussed. ✅ Investments in green energy: the importance of preferential programs for developing renewable energy sources and cogeneration plants was emphasized. Interesting things from Roman Andarak's speech: 💬 “We actively cooperate with international partners to overcome challenges and strengthen our energy system. We are especially grateful to Germany for its support, particularly as the largest donor to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine.” The German side reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting Ukraine and implementing effective cooperation mechanisms. 👉 The joint efforts of Ukraine and Germany contribute to the faster restoration of our energy sector and the development of new environmental projects. Russia’s isolation from the West following its invasion of Ukraine has given new impetus to the country’s already close cooperation with the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Russia is using energy to enhance its influence in Central Asia and achieved notable successes in 2023, including building generating capacities, increasing electricity and hydrocarbon supplies to the region, and developing its transit potential to China https://lnkd.in/dJAYa-rq
