A famous Stanford experiment known as the "Marshmallow Test" in 1972 attempted to understand a link between delayed gratification and positive life outcomes by offering children to make a choice between immediate rewards or larger ones if they waited. I wonder what the results would be if we conducted this experiment in this era with a small change. Instead of the marshmallow, we keep their smartphone on the table with complete access to Wifi. Interesting insights to look forward to if this study was done: Is self-regulation likely to be weaker now compared to before? Are we more impulsive now than before? How has our reward desirability evolved over the years?

The Ofcom Children and Parents Media Use and Attitudes Report 2024 is out, revealing key trends. 60% of children aged 3-17 game. Children often use online gaming as a tool to communicate with their peers but the 2024 report tells us that 31% of children engage with strangers on these platforms. 68% of 8-17-year-olds use social media, messaging or video or voice calling apps with 65% of them regarding the online space as being beneficial to building or maintaining their friendships. 34% of 12-17-year-olds believe it is important that people can say what they want online, even if it upsets or offends others. Social media is robbing a generation of its soul.

Technology, AI, iPads, and Computers is how our world works. The world we have now. Students need to know about this world and how to navigate it successfully. One of the common pushbacks is SCREEN TIME. Which has taken on a life of its own, and become a barrier to 1:1 device adoption for a lot of schools and parents. YOUNG CHILDREN GIVEN THE FREEDOM TO CAUSE HARM: Quote: New research conducted by classroom tech firm RM Technology, with 1,000 pupils, suggests that just under a third are using AI "to look at inappropriate things online". Comment: If I had a child under the age of 18, I would restrict them to a mobile phone that could only make voice calls and send text messages - NOT have access to the Internet. If they wanted to access the internet, then they could use a basic computer at home under supervision - simple! Our children are the future of our Nation, they should focus on education during their formative years ... not playing computer games, online gambling and other nonsense. What say you?
