🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share that our latest paper, "The Incidence of Retinopathy of Prematurity in Neonates in Germany in 2019; A Nationwide Epidemiological Cohort Study," has been published in the European Journal of Pediatrics! 🔍 This study marks a crucial step in understanding the landscape of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in Germany, providing invaluable insights for pediatric and ophthalmologic care. 👶 Our research focused on the nationwide incidence of ROP in neonates in 2019. Through a detailed, comprehensive analysis, we've uncovered new data that will significantly impact how we approach neonatal eye health. 🤝 A heartfelt thanks to my co-authors and the entire research team for their dedication and hard work. Primitive Reflexes: A Controversial Topic! While there's no doubt about the existence of primitive reflexes, the debate swirls around their inhibition. Once a standard part of pediatric neurology exams, primitive reflex testing isn't as common today. Nevertheless, it plays a crucial role in evaluating child development. Mainstream pediatrics suggests these reflexes should vanish by the end of a child's first year. However, numerous studies suggest otherwise. In a significant portion of the population, primitive reflexes persist into middle childhood and even adulthood, challenging traditional assumptions. #ChildDevelopment #Neurology #DebateInProgress #mindfulOT #newmarket

Due to the overwhelming response and interest in the first cohort, I'm opening up another session -- I am gathering some colleagues to participate in a FREE small-group social learning experience on a digital platform called Gather-ed. The course, Comprehensive Approaches to Addressing Atopic Dermatitis in Very Young Patients, offers the opportunity to obtain free CME/CE credit while completing brief learning modules and collaborating with others within the group. The time commitment is extremely modest and flexible -- the modules are short, self-paced, and will be followed by a live discussion at the end of August. Again it's totally free for you to enroll and you will get CME credit for completing it (it is funded by an educational grant). The target audiences are: pediatric and family medicine clinicians (MDs, DOs, APPs) so that you are more comfortable with understanding and initiating treatment for atopic dermatitis and knowing when to refer for more systemic options, but also dermatologists to feel more comfortable with treating atopic dermatitis in children. I think the most valuable part of the course is the case discussion and developing action plans, so I am capping the enrollment to 20 because I think small group discussion will work best. One of the strengths of our research group and our unique hip dysplasia cohort is the ability to publish long term radiological follow up such as this paper looking at the relationship between radiological findings at birth compared to adulthood.
