Showering for the visually impaired! 💦 Working with the RNIB we spent time speaking to visually impair people about their experiences navigating every day situations, that most of us take for granted. We know it's not easy so the Mira Showers Select Flex is all about empowering visually impaired users and giving them back the power to shower independently. Our research revealed that audible feedback and high contrast graphics on key shower controls, plus anti-reflective surface finishing, ensure showering controls are more visible for the visually impaired. Raised icons and tactile graphics are incorporated to improve the user experience allowing them to control the shower precisely. Today we celebrate the inaugural World Day for Assistive Devices Technology. What then is Assistive Technology (AT)? According to IDA, "Assistive technologies are things and services that can help people with disabilities and other people to do things that would be hard or impossible otherwise". Examples of AT include; 1. Hearing Aids. 2. Reading Glasses. 3. Wheelchairs. 4. Prosthetic legs. 5. Screen readers. 6. Phones with large buttons or images. 7. Crutches. Assistive technologies can help people with disabilities and other people without disability to live independently and take part in all things in life. However, AT alone is not enough. Structures and services in the community e.g. roads, buses, buildings, information, and technology MUST be accessible to maximize the use of AT.
