It's #wellneswednesday again, and I'm having a pretty good week. Some of you who are new to my Wednesday posts, so I thought I'd use todays post to share why I do this almost every week. Sometimes I don't feel like it, but I still try to get one in every Wednesday. As a society, we could probably write volumes about the things we don't do because we're afraid to do them. We're afraid of the stigma and the potential repercussions. We don't talk about weight loss surgery because we've been told it's the lazy way out. We don't get it because insurance companies rarely pay for it. Insurance companies don't pay for it because we don't talk about it and as a result there's no pressure for them to cover it. It's vicious cycle. I don't want to go on a rant, so I'll let it go with one example. But you know the list goes on and on. I just decided a few years ago, I was going to talk about mental health and my journey. I figured if anyone saw it and felt like it was okay to talk about it themselves, then it was worth it. I've written about my struggles with weight, my mental health, my departure from a high-demand religion, and lots of other stuff. It's important for people to know that everything isn't always okay. That when we see pictures of that person with a smile on their face, in the mountains, holding a steaming mug of coffee that it's not always like that for anyone. Sometimes we're not okay. Sometimes, we don't feel good. Sometimes we need help. Last week, for the first time, after reading one of my posts, someone reached out to me in a private message and asked for help.
