Navigating your entry into a new project team seamlessly (even if you're feeling like the new kid on the block). Starting on a new project team is always intimidating. Especially, when you are a new project manager. Trust is built over time and it starts with showing up, being authentic and delivering on your commitments. Here is what you can do on your day 1: 1. Communicate Effectively - clear, concise, and timely. 2. Show Empathy - embrace diversity of ideas. 3. Be Accountable - deliver what you commit. If you show these qualities, your team will notice. Once, they like you, they will start trusting you.

👨🏼💻 There are four types of team members. All contributing, but the different personalities add to the complexity for the project manager to lead the team 🧐 The no-nonsense team member. They perfer to leave the jokes at home. They’ll “get right on it!” For whatever task you delegate. They’ll go the extra mile on their own accord 🤪 The jokester team member Usually the longest tenured. They know what they can get away with. Sometime will surprise you with their dedication and output. 🤔 The expert team member Sometimes a know it all. Can be difficult to work with at times. But will provide some serious value when it matters. 🤯 the naysayer team member Will always point out reasons an idea won’t work. Stuck in their own ways. Will drag an issue on way longer than necessary. 🧩Please repost, follow me, and subscribe to my Piecing Together Project Management newsletter at rtomsaxton.substack.com #PiecingTogetherProjectManagement

Doing it cheerfully is another way to be productive. A few years ago, I was managing a complex project with tight deadlines and multiple stakeholders. The pressure was immense, and the team was feeling the weight. As the project manager, I knew we needed to meet our goals, but I also realized something crucial—our approach was just as important as our output. One morning, instead of diving straight into tasks, I gathered the team for a brief meeting. I encouraged everyone to share something positive, no matter how small, before we started the day. It could be anything—a personal achievement, a fun experience, or simply something they were looking forward to. The energy in the room shifted almost instantly. We started tackling tasks with a lighter spirit, and soon enough, the positive atmosphere led to better collaboration and creative problem-solving. The deadlines were still there, but we were handling them more effectively because we were doing it cheerfully. That project ended up being one of the most successful I've managed, not just because we delivered on time, but because we did so with a sense of fulfillment and positivity. In project management, it's easy to focus solely on the end goal. But how you get there—your attitude, your mindset—can make all the difference. When we approach our work with cheerfulness, we open ourselves to higher productivity, better teamwork, and ultimately, greater success. #ProjectManagement #Leadership #PositiveMindset #Teamwork #Productivity #Storytelling #ProjectSuccess #Motivation #CheerfulWork #ManagementTips

🤝 Project Success = Team Effort 🤝 As Project Managers, we put in a lot of hard work to keep everything running smoothly. But it’s important to remember that success doesn’t rest on one person’s shoulders alone. Sometimes, it's up to the team to step up, understand the situation, and push things forward. True progress happens when we all take ownership, collaborate, and move toward the goal together. 💡 #Teamwork #ProjectManagement #Collaboration

This week, I completed one of the toughest projects I've ever worked on. It reinforced why I chose to be a Project Manager in the first place - the people. In challenging times, you realize the true value of your team. It's about understanding them beyond just numbers and metrics; each team member brings unique strengths that, when combined, can form a robust project ecosystem. The key lesson from this project? Building trust with your team is essential. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of a happy customer and a successful team. #ProjectManagement #TeamWork #CustomerSatisfaction
