Did you know that every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or palate? Today, let's shine a light on cleft care and the incredible journey of those affected. Cleft lip and palate are common birth conditions that can impact a child's ability to eat, speak, hear, and even breathe properly. Yet, with early intervention and specialized care, these challenges can be overcome. It's essential to spread awareness about the comprehensive care and support needed for individuals born with clefts – from surgical interventions to speech therapy and ongoing medical care. Every child deserves access to the resources and expertise that can transform their lives. Let's support organizations and healthcare professionals dedicated to cleft care, and let's celebrate the resilience and strength of those living with cleft conditions. More than 10% of American babies are born premature. It is the second most common cause of infant death. As I wrote in an opinion piece co-authored with March of Dimes in CQ and Roll Call last year, Congress authorized the PREEMIE Act in 2006 to fund research and public-private partnerships to reduce preterm birth. It is critical that legislators act now to reauthorize it. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the bill, and we are now calling on the Senate to do the same. Nemours Children’s Health is literally showing up for this cause. Tomorrow is the fifth annual Cindy Pellegrini Maternal and Child Health Advocacy Day. Along with our colleagues from the March of Dimes and the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, clinicians and advocates from Nemours will be advocating before Congress to push for the passage of the PREEMIE Act, among other key legislative priorities for maternal and child health. #CindysAdvocacyDay #PREEMIEAct #MaternalMortality

While crucial for low-income families, WIC's procurement practices may inadvertently drive up formula prices for others. Reform is needed to ensure market resilience and equitable access to infant nutrition. The Federal Trade Commission’s report on the infant formula market highlights how programs like WIC contribute to market concentration, posing risks of supply disruptions. Despite WIC's cost-effectiveness and positive impact on low-income families, there are unintended consequences. Groundwork Ohio is excited to share The Family Voices Project Report. Parenting is difficult and Ohio’s families are experiencing stress as they navigate many barriers to support their children and themselves. ‼️Nearly 1 in 3 respondents reported experiencing high stress related to parenting. ‼️Most parents (95%) are working and 27% of single parent reported working more than 1 job. ‼️Almost 60% of respondents felt that their current child care was not affordable. These barriers limit access to quality health care and early learning experiences for their children, who have increasing unmet behavioral and developmental needs. ‼️More than 1 in 3 respondents reported difficulty finding child care. ‼️Nearly 1 in 5 parents reporting missing a well child check up and 20% of parents reported their child was not able to access timely care when they were sick. ‼️More than 40% of respondents reported that they had concerns about their child’s development and almost half expressed concerns with their child’s behavior. Thank you to our partners at the RAPID Survey Project. This report highlights the numerous and complex challenges families are experiencing in Ohio. A dynamic and innovative approach for the Modern Cardiology Practice | We Accelerate Time to Diagnosis from Days to Minutes
🚨 Two Young Lives Lost to Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the DMV 🚨 In just under two weeks, two young athletes tragically died on the football fields of Hopewell, VA, and Reisterstown, MD, due to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). As a father, a lifelong advocate for heart health, and someone who has spent my entire career in the cardiac diagnostic space, this hits incredibly close to home. Despite the availability of advanced technology and screening resources, these tragedies are a stark reminder that our communities are still vulnerable—and the silence on this issue is deafening. 📢 Where is the urgency? 📢 Where is the leadership? 📢 Why is this not getting the attention it deserves, especially in an election year? This is not just a health issue; it’s a public safety issue that demands immediate action. Our youth are at risk, and yet, mandatory heart screenings in schools are still not prioritized. In May, I launched the DMV Has A Heart initiative to address this very problem. We are working tirelessly to bring awareness and action to prevent these avoidable tragedies. But we can't do it alone. We need our community leaders, healthcare organizations, and politicians to step up and lead. Let’s not wait for the next tragedy. Let’s demand mandatory heart screenings in our schools NOW. For more information on how you can get involved, visit dmvhasaheart.org. Let’s protect our youth. Let’s act before it’s too late. #CardiacHealth #YouthSafety #DMVHasAHeart #PublicHealth #ElectionYear #Leadership Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIELAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican College of CardiologyGlenn YoungkinHerman TaylorKarina LipsmanJude MabonéJoe PiraneoSara JuedesAaron ParkerBen Brodsky

Systemic gaps and enduring inequalities often render pregnant women and their children invisible in policymaking, which falls short of the biblical vision for community flourishing. Scripture consistently calls for care of marginalized women and children, reflecting God’s special concern for them. Dr. Emilie Cunningham highlights that her advocacy in maternal health is an extension of her faith, a way to practice her beliefs and connect her values to her actions. This faith-driven commitment challenges us to consider who is left out of our systems of care today and how they can be brought back in. By honoring maternal health, we respect the dignity of mothers and children and foster healthy communities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eu-5FsKp
