Going back to school after 3 years on the ground as a medical doctor is like opening a new chapter. It's invigorating, challenging but also filled with potential. 💡📚 It's interesting to see how public health practices can be powered by economic theory. My goal? To understand health beyond medical records and prescriptions. I aim to look at it through a global lens, to see the larger picture and to make more informed decisions. How are you breaking YOUR mold? I think that's the challenge every day - to not just counter others' preconceptions, but our own. When I lead workshops on using the principles of improv in medical practice and life (a recent participant said, "You just re-taught me everything I need to know about being a parent" in an improv for healthcare session!), I challenge participants to break the type-casting they've been doing for themselves. You know... What it needs to look like to be a great doctor, a good mom, a supportive partner, a giving community member... things that we just strive for and often find ourselves falling short. Because we weren't meant to play those roles. "Nobody wants to see the perfect nun," - my mentor guiding me in a not-so-hilarious improv rehearsal. "Let's see their imperfections - THAT's what makes an interesting character and human. It's the human part." Game on.
