White Ribbon Day. International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. The start of 16 Days of Activism. So many great initiatives aimed at encouraging others to challenge a deep rooted issue in society. Even small acts can help stop violence against women and girls. All of us within the security industry have a vital role in protecting members of the public. If you have concerns about someone’s safety, you should consider doing one or more of the following: • Report your concerns to your supervisor or the site/venue management. • Seek the help of street pastors or street marshals. • Take advantage of any local or national schemes aimed at keeping people safe, such as ‘Ask Angela’. • In the case of a young person or vulnerable adult, call a relative of the person to help. • Call for a licensed taxi to take the vulnerable person home • Use ‘safe havens’ or other local initiatives run by organisations such as St John’s Ambulance • Call the police Thank you for your dedication and professionalism in protecting the public. …...................................... November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, also marking Day 1 of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence global campaign. It ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day, emphasizing that gender-based violence is a violation of human rights. In the next 16 days, The Redwood will be posting actions we can all take to help end gender-based violence. 📣 Action # 1 is to urge groups and organizations you are a part of to declare gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, and family violence to be an epidemic that warrants a meaningful and sustained society-wide response. 📣 This aligns with the recommendations from the Final Report of the Mass Casualty Commission and Renfrew County Inquest.
