It's here... The June Monthly Threat Assessment! Here's your overview summary, but read on to dive into the detail and analyst assessment: June’s Threats are significantly influenced by the geopolitical landscape, due to the number of upcoming elections and ongoing conflicts in Russia and Palestine. Cyber events are closely linked to geopolitical trends and the volume of high-profile elections, in particular the UK, US, France and European Union Parliamentary elections. The EU elections took place in June and the French and UK elections are due to take place this month, with US elections due by the end of the year. The Olympics is also posing a significant threat to France, with regards to threats, but also physical threats from the Islamic State and al Qaeda. Advanced Persistent Threats are targeting countries, not only with cyber-attacks, but also with disinformation campaigns, in an attempt to influence the electorate. Third-party attacks have been prevalent this month, as Synnovis, a pathology services provider, was targeted, to impact the NHS. Snowflake, the cloud storage provider, was also targeted by threat actors.

Prioritizing your data and closely monitoring access to it should be a top priority! This advice comes from Regional VP of DoD, Justin Wilkins, who recently discussed effective strategies for safeguarding critical information in federal agencies during an interview with Scoop News Group. One quote resonates well with the work we are doing across the DoD, particularly within the US Navy and United States Marine Corps Justin emphasizes, "It's a matter of when not if, and if I'm monitoring what users are doing, I'm in a good position to reduce the uncertainty, improve my visibility, and ultimately, limit the amount of time an attacker has to cause damage." Highlighting the importance of understanding access rights, automating risk remediation, and implementing solutions for activity monitoring and analytics to fortify federal security amidst rising threats. Taking a data-first approach, including accurate data classification, is crucial for implementing effective security measures. Protecting critical data is essential, and proactive measures can significantly enhance overall security posture. Any questions, feel free to reach out. 🎥 Watch his full interview here:

CEO/Founder at Veriphix - Belief data and shifting belief. Dual use COTS. NATO Challenge Winner. MissionLink '23 cohort
Nakasone makes some large assumptions which highlights the problem. 1. Age = intelligence. Being over 50 is NOT an excuse for not understanding technology. Being 30 does not mean you understand technology. Gov’s highly structured advancement system and defference to leadership means Gov types associate age with intelligence. IRL that is not the case. IRL people learn or get fired. 2. DOD/IC = Cutting edge cyber. It isn’t. Govs are generaly tier 2+ tech. The top tech is tied to momey and companies that benefit from it. Govs buy on accountability NOT on price or efficacy. = Youngins don’t want to work in a highly structured system playing in Tier 2 and run by 50 year olds who don’t understand tech.
Strategist, Cryptologist, Cyber Warfare Officer, Space Cadre, Intelligence Professional. Personal account. Opinions = my own. Sharing ≠ endorsement.
Paul Nakasone says fifteen times more 50-plus-year-olds work in national security than under-30s.
