Axios reports that trust in AI is sinking. Regulators worldwide are examining where to input guardrails, and the public increasingly wants to know the implications of AI systems that now chat, create, and analyze in new ways. How to build trust? Clear, direct communication about privacy, security, and how these tools improve work and life. Company leaders must be visible and publicly share their expertise and values, contextualizing where and how new technologies will make an impact. Technology is ultimately a human story. Building trust is the core element to widespread adoption and use.

The Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security recently announced the expansion of the Validated End User (VEU) program to include data centers. The VEU program allows preapproved end users to receive certain controlled items without individual export licenses. The expansion of the program recognizes the benefits of artificial intelligence and the crucial role data centers play for AI development, and it reflects the United States’ commitment to facilitating AI development while mitigating risk to U.S. national security. Glad to be here at #RSAC2024 #TheArtOfPossible, engaging with diverse insights on information security. AI was at the forefront of all sessions, talks and panel discussions, with Privacy, Security, Intellectual Property, and Bias being key concerns. Amidst challenges, some CISOs are embracing AI-driven tools to boost internal efficiency and innovation, staying ahead of competitors. Yet, the evolving landscape of AI poses regulatory uncertainties. It's been over 2 years since AI reached mass accessibility, yet firm clarity on risk management remains elusive. AI isn't new, with discussions dating back to the 1880s. Its recent availability to the general public marks a significant shift. Leveraging AI's power, tools now excel at tasks previously reserved for humans. As AI evolves, it moves beyond providing insights to making decisions and possibly taking actions, ushering in both excitement and concern. The future promises rapid change, but humanity's creativity and thinking-out-of-box will prevail over artificial intelligence's limitations. Just that the box now has grown exponentially 😉 #AI #InformationSecurity #FutureTech #ExcitingTimes #NewERA

As AI continues to dominate many conversations, it’s clear government and industry have a collective responsibility to think judiciously about how we apply it to critical missions. I had a great discussion with Katie Noyes, FBI Section Chief for Next Generation Technology and Lawful Access, at the #GDITEmerge: AI on the Frontlines event. She shared that “the most terrifying part of AI is an omnipresence that can reach anyone even without them knowing they were targeted.” This is a stark reminder that while AI is a powerful technology, its ubiquitous nature poses many potential threats and challenges. Government and industry must work closely together to establish robust guardrails to minimize the risks as we capitalize on the opportunity this capability offers.

The government is taking action to guarantee that US agencies won't misuse AI technology. Offices utilizing AI capabilities will need to confirm that they do not jeopardize the security and rights of Americans. Each agency will also be required to post a public list of all the AI systems it uses, along with a risk assessment of those systems and a description of why it utilizes them. https://ow.ly/Ty5A50R44Ng
