U-Haul teamed up with Gold Star Mother and founder Kathryn Cross to print, pack, and distribute greeting cards celebrating veterans. Leading up to Memorial Day, they visited veterans in Connecticut and New York.
The Tribute Journey, founded by Cross, creates custom cards with her poetic verses, printed out of the U-Haul Phoenix headquarters.
On May 4, Gold and Blue Star families packed and sent over 20,000 Tribute Journey cards to 81 hospitals in 45 states, thanking veterans in VA medical centers, clinics, and nursing homes.

Dr. Qwynn Galloway-Salazar brings her experience as a veteran and spouse of a combat veteran straight into her work as a death doula and educator. She sees the value of a multi-layered approach, believing that:
1. We can best companion veterans who are dying by understanding their unique end-of-life needs.
2. We can better support the caregivers of veterans through education and practical resources.
3. We can offer insights to the medical team that is supporting an individual, to help them understand the unique facets of a veteran's life experience and how those may play out at the end.
Qwynn and I dive into these questions and more, but at the heart of this conversation is the question: What would it look like to truly honor veterans as they come to the end of their lives?

Did you know that only 6% of physicians in the United States are Latino?
Why this stat matters is because today, roughly 10% of seniors 65 and older are Latinos, but by 2030 that number will nearly double and by 2060 even it will be even higher.
Not having enough Latino physicians to care for aging seniors will ultimately shift the responsibility to unpaid family caregivers. Which is why planning for this shift now is critical to help make sure that care is appropriately represented for all, even as we age.
It's for this reason that we are so proud to be founded by not one, but TWO Latino physicians who are both military veterans on a new mission to change the narrative on how we age and how we view aging.
Our goal at Cline is to become the brand that celebrates the active-aging lifestyle of today's seniors, giving them the confidence and comfort they need to live independently longer.
Happy #NationalLatinoPhysicianDay 2024 to all the Latino/a physicians.

This is how Va got bad name post Vietnam. It appears technology and surveys won’t fix bad habits and ideas. Please note there is a lot of pressure on each person they are all unique many have some similarities the VA should be doing pattern analysis by state and location. I would be something will emerge. In relation to hours, staffing, technology available and experience or training. There may be relation to funding hours. All can be interpreted by analysis by ORSAs.

🛑 Why so many Veterans meet their end in VA parking lots 🛑
Today, the VA canceled my appointment with 28 hours' notice, an appointment that took me months to work up the courage to make.
This launched me into a bureaucratic nightmare. What followed was a maddening loop of transfers—from a nurse advice line (who couldn't make me an appointment anywhere else because of policy) to eligibility offices(who couldn't make the doctor change because of policy), and finally bounced between clinics without any resolution.
This chaos is why we hear heartbreaking stories of veterans committing suicide in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs parking lots. It's unacceptable. Our veterans deserve dignity and respect, not endless red tape and incompetence. We need a complete overhaul of the VA system—now. Our heroes can't wait.

For my fellow veterans, struggling with the VA, please reach out.
You can contact the Veteran's Crisis Line by calling 988, and then pressing 1. Also, if you know a veteran in crisis, you can call that line and give them his or her number, and they will call the veteran directly.
Depression, anxiety, and PTSD can be enough without canceled appointments, administrative dead-ends, and all the difficulties that accompany working with a government agency.
For administrative dead-ends, I know a magic question that resolves things faster than you ever thought possible!
