Today marks an important #milestone for our young company. After founding and incubation of the idea as part of GATEWAY49 and our current ESA BIC Northern Germany involvement, Coher Sense can announce the project start of our ZIM-DS feasibility study RaInIso-DS. As part of this co-funding grant, our CEO and founder Oliver Lischtschenko has been able to leave the #bootstrapping at Ocean Optics and focus full-time at Coher Sense. Huge thanks to Frederick Vinzent and the entire EurA AG team for the #support with the #grant application. We wouldn´t have been able to do this without your support. While it is not a huge amount for most companies, it is a real #gamechanger for a small, young company like us. Huge thanks to VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action for the positive assessment and for providing the funding. We will make sure it is well invested and sustainable. Besides partial funding for Oliver, 2 additional full-time positions can be created for 6 respectively 8 months and we hope to keep building up. Summercamp 2024 – Future of Germany as Industry Location “We have a lot of power in Germany,” said Sandro Wagner from the DFB, "it just needs to be directed in the right direction." There is no better way to sum up the motto of this year's Handelsblatt Media Group Summercamp. It was two days full of inspiration and optimism, with over hundred speakers from start-ups and corporations showing how they are transforming the German economy with energy and vision without losing sight of the current challenges. My highlights: IPAI - AI from Heilbronn We need an ecosystem to be competitive. Moritz Gräter shows how Heilbronn wants to become an AI hotspot in Europe with the support of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation. We don't do research in the bubble, we produce solutions for industry - that's what distinguishes us from San Francisco. Isar Aerospace - Rocket Start-Up Thinking big: why just build engines and not the whole rocket? says Daniel Metzler. The Munich-based start-up has raised over Euro 400 million from investors without any support from the German government. It's first rocket is due to launch from Norway in the coming weeks. Mission Summit We have a lot of potential: talented founders with ideas and courage, but that alone is not enough. We need less regulation and more investment to regain world leadership in many areas such as Industry 4.0 (robotics, sensors) and green tech, says Bain's Walter Sinn. Start-up Factory Lighthouses The German government is planning a lighthouse competition. With the help of private sponsors, 10 start-up factories are to be established in the vicinity of German universities. If succeesful, Germany could become a global leader in start-up financing, says Helmut Schoenenberger of UnternehmerTUM. This was my fifth camp. However, this first American high-tech cluster likely would not have developed as it did without one of the biggest shocks to federal R&D funding in US economic history. In a paper in the American Economic Review, authors Daniel P. Gross and Bhaven N. Sampat explain how a World War II research effort jump-started innovation hubs like Route 128 across the United States. This morning we got to listen to Cecilia Malmström’s outlook on the world as she was interviewed by her podcast colleague Martin Holmström. A few insights and takeaways: During 2024 there will be 73 elections around the world (such as the US, European Parliament, India, UK, Russia, and more..) and this will surely affect the state of the world. We will likely see increased protectionism and tariffs which will have implications and trade, innovation, and collaboration. To stay ahead of global scenarios a tip is to follow news channels and sources you usually don’t. Listen in on the Swedish podcast "Omvärldsspanarna" (link in comments). Gothenburg trending as a tech leader 🇸🇪 As we move through 2024, it’s evident that technology continues to reshape our lives. Interestingly, the rapid pace of tech development in Gothenburg is now setting the city at the forefront of global innovation, gaining increasing recognition as a tech leader. For decades now, Sweden has often been casually mentioned in movies and series, which has led to its perception in a particular way worldwide. Typically, Stockholm has been the city most frequently mentioned. However, there was a recent shift in the discourse when a tech leader in the popular Max (formerly HBO) series Succession was portrayed as a successful entrepreneur and investor from Gothenburg, specifically. But is there any truth to portraying Gothenburg as a tech leader? Well, there sure is, according to statements and facts from Invest in Gothenburg, stating that 33% of Sweden’s private sector R&D investments are made in the region. It is said that Gothenburg boasts the highest number of engineers and natural scientists in Sweden’s metropolitan areas. Let's have a closer look at six trending tech areas in Gothenburg:
