3 tips for Early Career Teachers on the first day with their primary-aged class: 🌟 Stand at the door - greet the parents, carers and children in your class! (This may seem like the scariest thing in the world, but from my experience, it's truly appreciated. It starts to develop those positive working relationships and reduces first-day nerves all round!) 🌟 Routines, routines, routines! (Worry less about the content you've planned to teach and more about establishing those strong routines and boundaries. This will develop a safe and secure learning environment moving forward). 🌟 Be kind to yourself. (Some things may not go to plan today but everything will be alright! The Lane Career Academy: HOPE Factory is an innovative and unique partnership that brings high school students alongside industry for one academic year. The HOPE Factory is a partnership between HOPE Corporation and Lane Education Service District's (LESD) 16 component school districts. Students who complete the Program, receive specific instruction (NCCER), certifications (BOLI Pre-Apprenticeship, OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR), earn up to 12 Lane CC credits, employability skills and site-based training on the factory floor taught by certified instructors and industry craft professionals. The goal is to diversify who sees themselves as a tradesperson and decides to participate in this program. Students from across Lane County are intentionally put in front of trade organizations, industry leaders and community college faculty. All 30 students who completed the program this launch year, are work ready in manufacturing and construction trades. HOPE is utilizing the availability of a ready workforce that they have been suffering to find. In fact, they have just hired four graduates from the first graduating cohort. These students come from Willamette, South Eugene, and Springfield High Schools. This partnership is an incredible asset: fulfilling quality labor shortage, supporting students' success, and bridging the gap between school and work. It also demonstrates and teaches students a way to be a contributing member of our community.
