Storyteller & Strategist

"Black teenage girls are the invisible tastemakers creating and popularizing some of the biggest trends simply by being their authentic selves. It’s the everyday Black girl, without a platform or the machine of capitalism behind her, who exudes cool without having to try". Bringing this beautiful piece, written by my phenomenal friend Ile-Ife Okantah, back to the timeline. It's been about a month since it was published, and her words still sit heavy on my spirit. Hoping everyone in my network, from marketers to merchants, educators to students, and trend forecasters to investors, will take 15 minutes out of their day to digest this. She articulates so eloquently and matter-of-factly the thoughts of many of your young Black peers. https://lnkd.in/et7AFVeJ #trendforecasting #culture #fashion #media #zeitgeist

I dont know if this is the crown they need. I’d prefer black teenage girls pursuing college etc. we have enough “influencers”but to be clear black culture has continued to be the largest “influencer” of American culture from blues and jazz, through rock n roll. Name a “pop culture” fad and it pretty much has black roots.

“Creating niche communities on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok makes it easier now for Black girls to find spaces where they can be unapologetically themselves, without fear of being told they’re “doing too much.” felt that
