I spoke with LOTS of US tax professionals in 2023. And guess what? Probably around 90% were not actively looking to make a career move when we spoke. In fact, it's not uncommon for me to have 2/3 or even 4 conversations over a 3-year span before someone decides it's the right time to move. Those catch-up calls in between are useful for both parties - I can better understand who they are and what will be the best fit for them. They can use the call to understand salaries, market trends, what perks competitors offer, if they want to work with me, etc. So, if I were going to offer advice to a UK/US Tax Associate at the early stage of their career, I would say to keep an open mind and maintain/build relationships with those outside of your firm.

Hey LinkedIn fam! I wanted to address a question that many of you have been asking me lately: "Can I receive tax incentives for implementing a second chance hiring program?" Well, the answer is YES! Let's dive into some key insights from my recent conversation on this topic. First and foremost, when it comes to hiring individuals who were formerly incarcerated, two essential factors come into play: the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and Federal Bonding. These are your golden tickets to unlocking valuable tax incentives for your company! But here's what matters even more than just tax benefits – ensuring that your second chance hiring program covers ALL aspects of re-entry and addresses the needs and wants of these individuals. It's not just about offering them a job; it's about providing comprehensive support. ⚫ Imagine this – someone walks out of prison eager to rebuild their life but faces challenges like lack of housing or transportation. Before they can even think about employment, they need basic necessities like a roof over their head and reliable means to get around town. So when building your second chance program, remember to consider these crucial avenues: → Housing: Connect with local resources or organizations that can help provide stable housing options. → Transportation: Explore partnerships with public transit systems or ride-sharing services so employees can commute without worrying about how to get there. → Support Services: Establish connections with programs that assist in obtaining mental health support, IDs, birth certificates, and other necessary documentation. ◆ By going beyond employment opportunities alone and addressing these critical areas upfront, you're truly setting up those who deserve another chance for success both inside AND outside the workplace! Remember - we all make mistakes in life; it's how we bounce back that counts. And as employers committed to making positive societal impact, it's our duty to provide the resources and support that can truly transform lives. So, my challenge to you today is this: if you haven't already, consider implementing a second chance hiring program within your organization. Let's create opportunities for those who are ready to turn their lives around! #SecondChanceHiring #EmploymentOpportunities #SocialImpact #TransformingLives
